Deep peace and prayers for healing in this time of unspeakable sorrow and loss, to the family, friends, Chi Omega, and all who suffer.

However, I'm just shocked at how something like this actually showed up as a very real risk management issue gone wrong.

Main things I'd like to know is:
- Since he's a graduate, why did anyone allow him on the house with the gun?
- Why didn't anybody deny him of alcoholic drinks if he had the gun? Judgment is the first thing that goes when it comes to alcohol.
- He never checked to see whether or not the gun was loaded before bringing it?!

I hope he thinks long and hard about it in jail and doesn't get out until he's matured significantly.

He was not a graduate, he was an active. He lived in the house, and the students were in his room when he decided to show them a flashlight attachment that he had just gotten for the gun. It was a poor choice for all the students to be near him holding a rifle when he had been drinking, and it was especially poor decision making for him to not check if the gun was loaded and to not watch where he pointed it. It was a horrible accident and I feel terrible for everyone involved, especially the girl's family and friends.

Those guys will probably be getting a grade of 5 in the next standards of excellence review bahaha

Dude, you shouldn't be joking about something that resulted in somebody loosing their life.

BemoreLXA 01-10-2011 06:02 PM

yea you're probably right. Still, that chapter is fucked. I'm interested in seeing how this plays out

People can be so dumb. You never keep a round in the chamber of a firearm. It only takes what, one second, to chamber a round?

Also, what fraternity houses allow live-ins to keep firearms there? I vaguely remember no guns being part if our house rules.

BemoreLXA 01-10-2011 06:22 PM

yes, its against insurance Im pretty sure

I know Chi Omega's national policy forbids firearms in any chapter housing. I remember reading that during NM period and thinking, wow, why would anyone keep guns in a fraternity/sorority house?

Without turning this into a second amendment debate (we've had enough political debate here on GC today :)) I'm glad my org has this policy, and I hope others have similar measures in place, and/or chapters take measures to ensure gun safety ed.

My prayers are with this girl's family, friends, Chi Omega, and all who mourn her loss.

I'm interested in looking through the guy's profile pictures and such. See what people are writing on his wall. Fat chance he'll accept the friend request though

No big surprise: Lambda Chi is "suspending" the chapter, see:

Excerpt:

“. . . Lamda [sic] Chi Alpha, announced it is suspending the FSU chapter because of the shooting.”

I don't see how the entire chapter is at fault, but oh well. Not my lane.
