Those rank-the-sororities type sites are so silly. I think the only people who pay attention to them are people who didn't get in anywhere. I'm glad to hear you've changed your attitude! Keep your head up - you can do it!

I just wanted to update and say that I'm absolutely in love with two of the "bottom houses".

I could be beating myself up about this since if I had gone through with pref and given these houses a chance, I probably would have loved them and could've been in a house a year earlier, but I think it was necessary for me to grow up a bit and look beyond the superficial. This time I will (hopefully) be going back to these houses during pref round not because they are the only ones I got back, but because they are the ones I want to go to. :)

Was it greekrank.com?

Because Ive viewed that website and it seems all anyone does is bash one another.

Glad to hear this! Good luck! It sounds like you have really matured in a year. No matter what happens, be proud of your personal growth. :)

Chicago88, we generally don't like to use that word on here. It's kind of like saying VOLDEMORT. Plus, then it invites people to go check it out and nobody wants that.

And Toquader, that is the best reason for going through recruitment a second time - not to get a better outcome but to get a better perspective. You might still end up happy somewhere else, but now you're looking openly at every chapter.

It's one of the first websites that pop up when you search for certain sororities / fraternities. I'm not condoning it but people do use it to get an idea of greek life at schools.

You're really trying hard to make friends before you go through recruitment, aren't you?

Anyway, it's certainly not an accurate way to assess sororities but from the ones I have viewed in my search they seem like they are used pretty frequently. Who knows who gets on those websites, just like here, people like to voice their opinions. It's easy to hide behind a username. I don't believe any of whats written nor do I feel that one sorority is any better than another because its pretty clear those websites don't promote sisterhood / philanthropy but to someone who is just beginning their search for sorority / fraternity information those websites are the first ones that come up. They were the first sites I viewed when trying to figure out greek life at my school. I asked a question about what website it was, not try to make friends or make enemies so I'm not quite sure why you felt the need to make a comment like that.

I believe the point is that you are not Greek and Greeks here have asked that you not mention this site here. I don't care if it comes up quickly in a google search, we prefer to rise above that sort of trash here. It's called having class.

Until now, no one has mentioned this nor have I read about it on here and forgive me for not reading back 3 years in posts. Thank you for pointing that out. I know what class is and for the record not once did I even hint that those sites epitomize "class" or "sorority life." You clearly missed the point of what I was trying to convey.

I saw the greekrank page for my chapter (long after I joined), and it is kind of bogus. I looked at all of the chapters at my school, and each one only has two or three ratings and posts or whatever. Pretty needless to say you will NOT get an accurate representation of my school's greek life from this website, so I wrote it off entirely. As for that OTHER greek life website, even worse. The pages for my current school and the school I transferred from are run by just a handful of people who are only on there to promote their personal opinions and bogus rankings. I honestly don't know how people can spend so much energy and effort on such a stupid thing. It's just bad ju ju.

Update: I dropped out. While I see this is a great system, I saw girls all around me who wanted it BADLY. Compared to them, I realize that I don't want it like they do. I have a great life at my school already, and I'm happy with it. This was a good experience though - now I'll never be thinking "what if?"

Thanks for letting us know. You seem like you're really confident about your decision, so good for you! It's true - Greek life is not for everyone, but now you know for sure.
