Sidenote: I'm not a fan of member lists on websites/chapter blogs/etc. Creeps don't need to be able to go to one centralized location to find the FULL names of every single girl in the chapter. I know that if your chapter has a FB fan page, alot of your members are fans of it and someone COULD theoretically look through all the fans to find members. This is why peeps should keep their profiles private. If everyone's profile is private, people who are looking through the fans don't know who's a chapter member and who is just a fan (ex: folks from the Office of GL/other sororities/etc.) |
There's certainly enough information on Greekchat alone to help someone understand how sorority life, recruitment and pledging works (especially at the big SEC schools mentioned in that story.) We've had our fair share of Creepy McCreepertons here that we know about, much less those who lurk. One person in particular really raises the hair on the back of my neck but seems to fly under the radar for most people who continue to engage him in conversation.

^^^I'm pretty sure I know who you're referring to. He's definitely weird, but few people seem to notice it for some reason. I haven't seen him here since I came back from holiday stuff though...

Thank you for the link to the Today Show clip. My friend (who is an FSU alum) called me last night and told me, "Some group called ** at Florida State is making their pledges put nude pictures up on Facebook!" I love her dearly, but she is anti-greek and doesn't care how much money or many hours GLO's contribute to worthy causes or wonderful people are members, they are the root of all evil. Now, pardon me (and most of my family) while I go sharpen my pitchfork.

I'm a little late to the party on this, but when I read this story after our president sent out an alert, I had to marvel as to how gullible these girls were. I know the idea of being groomed for a leadership position can sound tempting, but how did this go on for as long as it did? You would think that one of them would mention it to their New Member Educator or something, or at least bring up the name of the "sister" this creep pretended to be. What happened is creepy and scary, but I think I'm more disturbed at how easily the girls at FSU went along with it.

Thank god for that. I hope he gets a very strict punishment!
