You really need to get in touch with all your alumni of YOUR chapter. If your chapter is a newer one, this ought to be be as easy as calling/emails, and getting your Alumni to come by, send in recs or leads, etc. You cannot depend on National to do that for you. You can also get in contact with the local Alumni organization (look it up in the Shield and Diamond). The best recruiter can be the Alumni.

Once you get that accomplished, you can 'share' the idea with the other greek organizations.

^ I'm very surprised that your consultants weren't willing to help you. I would go through all of your resources at the national level before you rule them out completely.

To me, it sounds like you don't need "structure". I think you need to learn how to recruit.

I would suggest contacting the "Recruitment Experts" at Phiredup.com. Their presentation lasts all day, and it is very helpful, informative and eye-opening. However, it does cost quite a bit ($5,500 for both fraternity and sorority presentations). I would suggest contacting a nearby campus' Greek councils, or other chapters of the fraternities and sororities on your campus that are in the vicinity, and ask if they participate with you and split the costs.

I promise it's worth it!

Pike0828: I'd be a bit more discrete. You started out in this thread by talking about how to strenghten the Greek System, and it's starting to change into something about how National is not helping. If you have an issue with National, I'd take that up with National and get your Alumni to help with that.

Amen. What are you paying national dues for if they won't help you when you need it? I'd dump them and go local if they don't drop this attitude - seriously.

Well thanks everyone. itb2a- i didn't mean to make this into what it's turned out to be. We just really need a revival in our greek system.

Pike0828: The best thing you can do to 'revive' a greek system to make sure that YOUR chapter does the right things. Lead by example.

Your Greek system sounds very new. Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much. Make some big efforts to just go out there and try. Read up on your resources, seek help, and evaluate your success, but never forget that you need to actually practice recruiting.

This is true for your individual chapter as well. If you want the rest of your brothers to recruit well. Start leading by example. Go out and be a badass recruiter

Spend an hour every day only on meeting new people. Make it a point to meet five people every day for five days. Trust me, you will be a pro very soon. Other brothers will probably see you doing so, and they'll ask you how you recruit so many people.

What kind of relationship do you have with administration on your campus?

what does being a greek on your campus offer to a student that remaining an independent does not?

why should they join your chapter? what are they going to get out of it?

do you guys field intramural teams?

what sort of parties do you have? what sets these parties apart from the "party thrown by the 4 roommates in apartment 3 B"?

what sort of activities do you all do? how much face time do you get on campus? do you all represent during sporting events, activity fairs, etc? do you support(as a recognizable group) other organizations philanthropies? sororities often have jersey day or t-shirt day where all the members wear sorority shirts, and a day where they "dress to pin"(wear nice clothes to class with their badge). do you do something similar?
