Congratulations and the best of luck to the colony!

sorry for the crash, but I'm surprised they decided to take so few when there was SOOOOO much interest, and I don't think that gets them to chapter average.

The art and science of colonization completely eludes me!

I'll respond with the same saying I use about size 28 short shorts.

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."

Well, there's that, and they may have a plan to have a large spring class as well to ease some of the growing pains. I'm interested to see their growth trajectory.

With several large campuses in need of more chapters, I'm sure a lot of sororities are looking at the best way to be highly successful very quickly. And they may be learning that 200 newbies in 1 room is just too much.

Anyway, just pondering... not judging!

We have a truly phenomenal expansion team, and I trust them to make the best decisions for Alpha Phi.

I am thrilled to have 145 new sisters!

How does Spring recuitment for this group look?

And does anyone know why Alpha Phi left FSU in 1972?

What plans do they have for a house at FSU? How long would that take to accomplish? I would think that being the only sorority without a house would be an extreme disadvantage when it comes to Fall recruitment, especially since the existing sorority houses there are so beautiful.

I'm not sure if Alpha Phi took more new members for spring recruitment. I am quite sure that Alpha Phi is working on getting a house to be competitive along with the other sororities at FSU. Things like that do not happen right away.

please excuse the barge.

not an alpha phi sister, but an alumni of fsu. i know that the 70's were not kind to greek life at fsu (hippies, protests, sticking it to the man, etc.)-recruitment numbers dropped and several sororities were not able to weather the storm. alpha phi, alpha omicron pi, alpha xi delta, sigma kappa and sigma sigma sigma all closed during the 70's. that's an awfully high number for just a decade and i would imagine with each one, it was just a numbers problem. i would say a good half of the sororities struggled to make quota, which was in the 30's. the 80's saw an upswing in recruitment numbers that continued to improve even until today.

sigma delta tau is housed in what used to be the tri sigma house. Last i heard sigma chi was renting the sigma kappa house, which is located on park avenue next to the alpha gam house, across the street from theta and the back door neighbor of zeta. there was a fraternity in the old alpha xi delta house, which was in the next block from the sigma kappa house. and a o pi's house was housing sig ep, but there may be another fraternity in there now. that house is located next to dg.

if either the aopi or sk houses were available, they would both be nice locations, but i imagine that you all would be looking at major renovations thanks to a fraternity having lived there. the old alpha xi house would not be a bad location; it is just off by itself, but then again you would be coming in after a fraternity had been there. i don't know if any of these are even available and i know that your national officers are probably working very hard to make something happen.

as i little girl, i was fascinated with the round window in your beautiful house-i wish you all could get that back! however, i know that won't happen. fsu would love to get their hands on all the sorority houses, if they could!

The old AOPi house is gone but the lot is for sale - great location, right next door to DG and around the corner from the Park Avenue houses. The lot where the old Alpha Xi house stood on Park Avenue is also empty now. Sigma Chi is still in the former Sigma Kappa house.

A beautiful sorority house in any of these locations would be a jewel in FSU's crown. I don't think there would be any resistance from the university.

Our Gamma Phi colony at FSU will be installed as an official chapter March 19, 2011! Congratulations!:)
