Currently there is a policy known as Don't Ask, Don't Tell which means that LGBT can serve in the military, but have to hide their orientation. Part of Obama's campaign promises was to get rid of that policy. For those watching, is he actually going to do so?

To expand on this, The military is supposed to publicly support any foreign policy he makes, but have no interest in domestic policy. IIRC that is.

Actually I looked it up and it is indeed part of the United States Code. So it is up to Congress to repeal it.

I noticed some people leaping out of their seats to clap right BEFORE he said the inspiring part. I wondered if they were telepathic or something.
I think he will, but that doesn't mean anything will change. Legislature changes law, not feelings. When you're facing a high-charged situation like that, knowing full-well what the military attitude is, "official policy" means crap.

I'm looking at Facebook and see people are talking smack about the speech already (on Facebook). That would be fine, but these particular people have made it clear that they "refused to watch." :rolleyes: Um, if you didn't hear ANY of it, what exactly are you commenting on?

The same thing that fans of Obama who didn't watch are commenting on: How they feel about Obama, political parties, etc.
