So, so true. When I was Advisor, the chapter had to show the video to a group of strangers (the advisors, family, etc) to see where where to cut out the lame parts.

hahaha. I can't remember the phrases exactly, but something like that.

We were always encouraged to talk through the recruitment video -- to use it as a prompt to talk about our various events. I always had trouble with it, because I'm too easily distracted, and I HATE it when people talk through things. Plus, we always had to kneel next to PNMs and it really hurt by the last party of the evening. We would laugh when a picture was obviously funny (usually silly costumes or poses) but usually the PNMs laugh too.

I've never thought the videos were a good recruitment tool, and everyone's look the same.

I have to disagree. I think the recruitment videos are really cool and showcase the chapter's personality. I actually went to a house having hated it the previous rounds and ended up loving it once I saw all the things the house did and all the fun times they had...I guess it just differs...I don't remember them doing more than laughing or ohhhing though.

I think the best thing would be to have a clear narrative voiceover in the video or to segregate the video and have clear titles for each portion or captions ala picknic or something.

Talking should be encouraged, but only if the recruiter has something to say. Otherwise it sounds stupid. I have seen the difference b/t party one and party two where in one we were almost silent and the other we were encouraged to cheer,etc. it was SOOOO fake and weird b/c the girls didn't know what we were laughing or cheering or clapping about. It is very lame.
