I thought the beginning was pretty slow & that it was just ok overall.

I liked the story better when it was called Fern Gully/that South Park episode.

That said, the visuals were.... stunning. Watching movies in 3D usually hurt my eyes, but this was worth it.

I always get a slight headache/eye strain when watching in 3D. I attribute it to my extreme near sightedness which messes with my depth perception. I found that closing one eye helps. I had to do that a few times during the movie, especially when there was really fast motion. It wasn't as bad with this movie as it has been with some in the past. Maybe they are making the 3D technology better/differently?

Don't forget the theme of "Love your Mother Earth [Pandora]."

LOL. About halfway through, I thought "this is just Dances with Gaia in the Matrix."

See, for me the visuals can be The Most Amazing Thing Ever, but it still fails as a movie if the story isn't well done. If all I'm looking for is visuals, I'll go to a museum . . . or actually into the world somewhere. But to my mind, the purpose of the astounding visuals in a movie is to serve the story. Here, there just wasn't that much story to serve. On the other hand, my 12-year-old and his friend loved it because of the visuals. (That, and they hadn't seen "Dances With Wolves" yet.)

The visuals were very good -- some amazing and some overdone. But then, I don't think restraint is in James Cameron's vocabulary, nor is the idea that less can be more.

The story was ridiculously predictable. (Especially, as noted, if you've seen it before in "Dances With Wolves," "The Last Samurai," "Fern Gully," "Pocahontas," etc.) There literally wasn't a single surprise plot-wise. I could peg everything that was going to happen, including the ending (and the end shot).

I go with "meh."

Saw it in Imax 3-D on New Years Day.

Visuals, amazing. 3-D, amazing. Special effects, amazing.

Storyline, every single other James Cameron movie I've ever seen.

With all the special effects though, my favorite part was the Na'Vi language. The inner linguist in me went "squeeeeeeeee!" You could tell they put a lot of thought and work into it.

I saw it while at home for Christmas. Two IMAX tickets were over $30. After I woke up from passing out, we went in and had a great time.

I have a HORRIBLE memory from a really bad car wreck years ago, so I honestly don't remember the movies you all mentioned even thought I have seen them. The plot did seem predictable though...but I don't go to movies looking for new and exciting plots. Most movies recycle the same stuff anyway.

My husband and I both really enjoyed it and I'm glad we splurged for the IMAX experience. My parents had seen it before we did and were going on and on about the "pantheistic" philosophy and how they were uncomfortable throughout the movie. They are devout evangelicals. After I saw it, it seemed much more like Christianity to me.

My parents went to go to see it (I decided to stay home cause I have no interest in seeing it). When my mom came back, she said it was good but she thought it was very similar to District 9. I was glad I didn't see it (cause i didn't like District 9 either) lol.

I was dragged to this movie. Wasn't bad, but am I the only one who thinks its Pocahontas with an alternative ending?

I'll probably have to see it again because I was drunk while I was watching it. It just seems like he took different cultures from different parts of Africa or South America and combined it to make an alien kind of movie. Kind of simple. Great special effects though.

My hubby and I went last night, saw it in 3D. I thought that it was visually stunning, but we were elbowing each other and snickering at some of the OVER THE TOP messages. It didn't ruin it for me though, I was rooting for the blue giants at the end, and appropriately hoped the ass army guy would get what he had coming! :)

Ditto x infinity. That's all I could think through the whole movie. I liked it though, the plot was cute (recycled but cute). I saw it in IMAX 3D which was AWESOME! The graphics were so amazing, though I'm sure it would've been just as amazing with a $10 ticket instead of a $15 one. :rolleyes:

anyway, i didn't see it in 3D (dont really enjoy it) but even on a regular, non-imax screen it was beautiful. the teal/purple is actually my favorite color palettes :-)

Well I'll see it. It might not be the best in the world but I think it'll be enjoyable. It seems to be better than a lot of stuff that cam out this year.

Like others have said, I thought it was a very visually appealing movie. I didn't see it in 3D though, since the glasses have always given me a headache. The story was disappointingly predictable. I was extremely disappointed - again - with James Horner. There were multiple times in the movie when the score was way too reminiscent of music from other movies scored by JH. I honestly think I could lay out the sheet music for Avatar, Titanic and How the Grinch Stole Christmas and not be able to discern any difference between the three in certain places. It really irks when composers try to steal music (even from themselves), thinking the movie-goers won't notice.
