Some groups don't "show" well in the first round of rush, but they get better as it goes on and they don't have to keep trying to be all things to all people. I agree, continue and see how things go. If it gets to be pref time and you TRULY don't feel it with either group - leaving reputations aside - drop out then.

A lot of us who have posted our recruitment stories have had heavy cuts and still ended up in places that turned out to be good for each of us. Just hang in there. |

Well like others have said, try to stick it out :). I also didn't have a full schedule anyday of recruitment ( including the first but thats another story), but there is no doubt in my mind I'm where I was meant to be. I truly hope you find ur fit, and please don't think off ur situation as the rock in the hard place; simply the relocated rock :).

ANY sorority you join will have a stereotype. If you get into one of the more "popular" sororities, you'll have people saying (often out of jealousy) that the girls are fake...or that they're all cokeheads...or anorexic...or hate each other. If you get in a sorority with a lot of athletes, you'll hear the "lady jock" rumors. A sorority with a high GPA is called a bunch of no fun brainy geeks.
Then there are those people who paint ALL Greeks with the same negative brush. You didn't let those people stop you from rushing in the first place, so don't let the same kind of talk keep you from joining a sorority if it is one you really do like. |
good luck scarlet! i hope you get two invitations.

Something else to consider... Would you be proud to be a part of these national groups after graduation? I know it is hard to think beyond the immediate few years you will be on campus, but being in a sorority is for life. Every NPC group is going to offer all kinds of opportunities after you graduate as well. If you are excited about being in a sorority, think long and hard before you give up the lifetime opportunity just based on tent talk, rumors and other people's perhaps immature perception of a chapter.

Good for you for sticking with the process and continuing to see what Macaroni & Cheese is like. Best of luck to you!

Scarlet, I'm glad you're going through with philanthropy round. I had a similar experience and was only asked to pref at one chapter and I ended up getting a bid and joining a wonderful sisterhood and national org. I was skeptical all through recruitment but looking back, I'm proud to say I'm a Zeta. PM me or IM me on this screen name on AIM - I'd be happy to tell you about my experience. Good luck!!!

I think you're very wise...chapter "images" on campus are fleeting and often change within your four years of college. The bonds of sisterhood you form in your sorority last a lifetime. Best of luck!

stick with it! speaking from experience, I almost did what your roommate did (well actually not almost, I DID do it but then quickly undid it) and I have found a group that I already see as my home after just a few short days, one I never thought I would love. And despite the stereotypes, everybody who sees my letters tells me how much they love so-and-so who is also in my chapter. The system most often works
