At least most of you guys got Trick or Treaters..we got 0...like we have in the past few years. Its so depressing because Halloween is my fave holiday and I KNOW there are kids in my neighborhood..its like their parents tell them NOT to go to my house or something, even though Im clearly in the Halloween spirit with all my lights, jack o lanterns, ghosts and pumpkins outside :(

We didn't have too many, maybe 5 or 6 groups of 6 or so :(

My husband blamed me, said that I didn't "let him" get a pumpkin! He's a grown man- he can get a pumpkin if he wants!!

Oh well, at least I bought candy I like!!

My aunt was house sitting for my parents this weekend who were out of town...she said they only got 7 at my house!!! I always thought there were a ton of kids in my neighborhood, so I dunno what the deal was. We usually get around 50...at least!!

Not so odd, actually. Dad has called P&Z more than once, and P&Z has contacted Moron with Chainsaw (as DH and I have named him) and told him to knock it off (which he hasn't done). P&Z won't take further action unless additional neighbors complain.

But I digress. We only had the one trick-or-treater. I spoke with my parents yesterday, and they told me that nobody came by... they are donating some of their candy to charity.

I bought more candy than I needed with the intention of taking any leftover candy to the office for candy dishes and treats for the kids our agency serves. It's a good thing I did, because we had a Halloween surprise that led to tons of trick-or-treaters.

We've lived in this neighborhood just over a year, but we didn't spend Halloween night at home- we went to my brother-in-law's place and let all the kids trick-or-treat there. It's no wonder that I was so surprised to see what happens in my neighborhood every year.

We live in the middle of a block, and on the other side of the street, down on the corner, is a big field where all the kids play football and frisbee and stuff like that. Just before 5pm, I ran to the take-and-bake pizza place to get our dinner, and when I turned back onto our street just after 5pm, *POOF* a big Halloween carnival had appeared in the field on the corner. 5 moonwalks, a stage for the live band (yep, live band), and tables/coolers/grills. As it turns out, a local church takes over the field every year with permission from the homeowner's association and has the carnival. Costume contest, free hot dogs/chips/drinks, goody bags for everybody, and the live band. The entire neighborhood came out, as did the neighborhood down the street.

So I couldn't tell you a number, but based on how much candy I bought and how many kids I saw, we had to've had at least 150. I had six huge bags of candy and ran out of all but a couple of handfuls of mini Tootsie Rolls.

On a side note, my 6th grader thought to trick-or-treat for canned goods for his school's food drive, which ended yesterday. I helped him carry 6 bags of groceries into his homeroom, and that was from just one full block. I had to pat him on the back for his idea. :)

I was surprised that we had some this year, last year we didn't have any. We didn't have any candy, so we didn't answer the door, and most kids got the picture after ringing the doorbell once.

There was a group of kids that rang it for about 10-15 minutes though. They were older kids (probably tweens and there was a definite lack of parents with them) and they rang it so much that I was reaching into the fridge to egg them from the second floor when they stopped.

I would have gone downstairs and yelled at them but I figured why bother when their parents aren't there. One ring at an undecorated and mostly dark apartment building + wait + no answer = no candy.

ETA: The trick-or-treating for canned food was an excellent idea.

We did that one year in college, as a chapter. We donated the canned goods (and Ramen noodles) to the local food bank.

Our first house - probably 20 total the entire four years we lived there.
Last house - Around 225 was the high (doorbell never stopped ringing and for 2 hours I sat in a chair close to the door with a bowl of candy), 150 was the low.
New house (this is our first Halloween there), 75 -just about a perfect number, but no candy left (I was hoping for one piece). :confused:

Around 50. Smaller # due to the rain. I started the night with 200 Tootsie Pops and ended up with about 80 left!
