Ok, so there are 3 sororities: ABC, XYZ, LMN. Quota is 45.

Everybody who goes to ABC's pref party ranks ABC first. Therefore, everyone on ABC's first list matches to ABC.

Susie is #46 on ABC's list (i.e. first on their second bid list) and is on XYZ's first bid list. Since ABC matched quota before getting to Susie, an attempt will be made to match her to her second choice, XYZ. Since she's on their first bid list, she will match to XYZ.

So.... bid matching finishes up. ABC and LMN made quota; XYZ did not. ABC and LMN may therefore take 3 quota additions each. Let's say the women who were #47, 48, 49 on ABC's list (i.e. 2, 3, 4 on their second bid list) were matched to XYZ or LMN. In the quota addition process, Kathy, who's #50 on ABC's list (i.e. 5 on their second bid list) would be matched to ABC.

(Edit: After bid matching and quota additions, XYZ would then be able to snap bid anyone who participated in recruitment but didn't match. So they could snap to quota, thus creating a scenario where all 3 chapters made quota and 2 of them made quota-plus.)

I think this is why the quota range concept came into being.

Key idea to remember. once a name makes it onto a chapter's first bid list in bid matching, she only goes off that list by 1) pledging to that chapter or 2) pledging to another chapter.

Quota additions are outside of the bid matching protocol and can reflect several factors which are considered by the RFM specialist and the campus panhellenic.

*also, I don't know if this has been noted, but quota additions shouldn't be more than 5% of quota (rounded up). For most chapters this amounts to 1-4 women.

The 5% rule was removed in October 2007. This was done to give the RFM Specialist more flexibility to do what is best for the panhellenic community. Ideally chapter size, balance of QA's among the chapters and PNM preferences are all taken into account along with any special circumstances of that campus. Overall RFM is working very well.

Not if she doesn't list that chapter on her pref card. She might not sign a pref card (in which case she will not get a bid through FR) or she might ISP another chapter (in which case she might get a bid from that chapter, or she might go bidless).
