If we just had an organizations it would be the same. your a family and u have lifelong brother and sister relationships, no matter how old you are your still apart of your greek family. An organization is not as meaningful

Though this sounds NPHC-oriented... In that case, you want to find a fraternity that's aligned with your goals, get up the numbers and express the interest of chartering. I think, any NPHC men can clarify if I missed something. IMO, I'd be happy to write you a prescription for that case of itis you got. Looks increasingly severe. :) |
they are the students, sorry i didnt clarrify. currently now we have 10 people who are actively trying to google information and speak to actual members of a fraternity and sorority to see how we can get this thing started. the other students are waiting for it to jumpoff, they're all excited about it but they dont want to do any background research with us. and i explained that by pleging your going to have to know ur history so your going to have to do it sooner or later.

Westwood College is not a campus that's going to have fraternities.
You haven't given a good reason as to why a Greek organization best suits you. Sounds like founderitis to me. |

That said, if life-long brotherhood and sisterhood are what you're after in starting a local fraternity, you've got a lot of work ahead of you. |
Do you work for westwood college?
you cant just say that statement and not back it up. My uncle works at the school and the administrators already got wind (i dont know how) of the students wanting to start a fraternity and he said as long as we present it to them well them will sign off on it. I appreciate all the help from you guys i really do. |
I can say whatever I want :)
But again, WHY does this need to be a fraternity? How would this undertaking survive for 10-20-30+ years? |
it's going to be a fraternity because we want it co-ed.
thats exactly what we need to figure out, thank you for asking that question. right now i dont have an answer for you, but i will be working on that. Any other questions?? |
Ladiishotta,
I am unclear as to what you really need to know? I am unsure if you truly even know what a Fraternity or a Sorority is and it is not our job to inform you of that nor can Google give you a complete answer. Secondly, your school's is considered as a commuter online program organized and implemented in Denver, Colorado. The goal of your school is to route students into large need fields, not a traditional learning seen at traditional colleges and universities. There are pros & cons to that. The pros are you can get a degree/certificate in a top level field, i.e. nursing, etc. The con is you don't get the full flavor of a college experience seen at a traditional school. Now, if that is important to you, you need to say that. Then you need to rethink your school. Because apparently, according to your schools website, the kind of social life is left to be desired, whereas, most traditional colleges/universities have a fully active student life section on their websites associated with it. Lastly, your school's parent was recently sued by the State of Texas for fraudulent claims of student financial aid. $7 Million to be exact. So, I don't know of many large national "Greek Lettered Organization" offices that would want to take on that liability. As far as forming your own Greek Lettered Organization, it has been said you have a lot of work ahead of you. And Greekchat.com would not be my 1st sole source choice in starting to ask questions about "how to form" these types of organizations. Good luck with your efforts though. :) |
It "needs" to be a Greek lettered organization because these people want to be in a Greek lettered organization. Whether or not the organization can last beyond the 2-3 year experience is probaby inconsequential. They will probably just be thrilled to have a local and newly founded Greek lettered organization that is designed for a 3 year college; and they will be thrilled that this college is allowing them, if it does.
Can only a "fraternity" be coed? That sucks. |

That info above tells me WAY more than any of OP's posts combined. Again, sounds like itis, plus filling a need of traditional college experience. |

To the OP, Sisterhood and brotherhood is wonderful, but it doesnt just happen. Its extremely hard for orgs to get started, and honestly, at a three year college like that, it will be even more difficult. I think its great to want to help kids, and its great to want to form bonds with people. But, you dont need greek letters to do that. Its not the letters on your chest that will make you special or make your friendships meaningful, its how you and your organization works together. The people you are with could put all your effort into helping a children's fund this season in time for Christmas instead of setting up a Greek letter org, you would bond much better over that experience and do much more to help. In 5 years, maybe your efforts could grow into an active, healthy, large group of individuals and they could entertain the idea of making it into a GLO. In the end, if you start something from the ground up, you honestly wont reap any of the benefits of it, you will be doing it for the people in probably 4 years....I would honestly do something that is going to make you happy now and help people now, and hopefully you can set it up that it keeps going, but if not, at least you made a difference in the community for a year or two. |
