Texas Darling, Hugs for you and your roommate.
|
hey everyone.
so I got the same call as texas darling. my rho chi called to let me know that i was dropped from the system. i hate how competitive rush is at ut. at any other school a girl with a high gpa and great recs would have a much higher chance. It kinda sucks. I know not to take it personally but what can you do. I am a teenage girl how can I not take it personally. I really wanted to be in a sorority and was wondering if anyone knew if cob was even a chance of happening at a big school like texas. I am hoping that I get a call from someone. I know there are a lot of other orgs on campus but I feel as a sorority is the right place for me and I decided to not get involved with spirit groups because I wan'ted to rush a sorority even though I am a sophomore. (I knew it would be difficult but not this difficult) I don't understand why sophomores are looked down upon. Thanks for all the support from gc it has gotten me through some tough times this week. |

Sorry to hear that you were released. According to alot of the other posts in this thread, COB is not the norm at UT. I'd suggest contacting the Greek Life office because they'd know if any new opportunities present themselves. |
I, too, am sorry to hear you were released this afternoon. I'd love to tell you UT does some COB, but I just don't know any longer. Their web site does mention one group that does not participate in formal recruitment, and it goes on to say some chapters do rush informally during the semester. I imagine it just depends on the situation. Do you know how many girls participated and how many dropped out? That's a factor, also.
I do know that some groups at A&M do snap bids and cob, but I also know sophomores have a tough, tough time getting in some of the chapters there. UT's a big school. Here's good wishes for finding a place to shine, Greek or not! |
Hugs to you Heart in Texas!
Even though COB opportunities are few & far between, it doesn't hurt to check with the Greek Life office to see if they know of any groups who are participating in COB after FR. Like others have said, don't let it ruin your college experience. With a school as big as Texas, there are bound to be great opportunities to get involved and to meet people. |

Girls, I am so sorry to hear that things didn't work out in formal recruitment for y'all. Several posters have suggested that if you still want to try Greek life, you contact the Greek Life office and inquire about other opportunities, as there may be some, and there are tons of ways to get involved in Austin. I hope you're able to get over the hurt in time and find fun ways to enjoy your college experiences.
