I heard a great analogy this year during Recruitment. If you're so busy pining for guy A who has a girlfriend that you turn down guy B who asked you out, you'll never find out that B was really your soul mate.

So at this point, she's only been through one day of recruitment? She has talked to a few sisters (if that) in chapters that reach nearly ... well, I don't know the size of their chapters, but I know they have a whole heck of a lot more sisters than 2 or 3!
PLEASE encourage her to continue. Because honestly, what does she have to lose? She doesn't necessarily have to accept a bid if she receives one, but I bet she'll always regret not going through to at least Pref rounds if she drops... especially after she sees all of the new members having tons of fun with their sorority sisters. It's one of those lines we see here frequently... "I thought I'd be ok until I saw girls wearing letters everywhere around campus, and I witnessed all of the sisters having such a good time together." Again, maybe she'll realize it's just not going to work out for her. But she should realize that at the end of recruitment, not at the beginning (that is, if she has her heart set on being in a sorority). |
Don't give up!
Please encourage your daughter to continue with recruitment! With such a strong Greek system, every house offers wonderful opportunities for its members. Even though she may have had her heart set on certain houses, she should remember that the ones that did invite her back REALLY want her. The first round of cuts is especially tough now with the new release requirements, but at least she will not be strung along by the houses she "loves," only to be cut right before the preference round. Best of luck, and please keep us updated!

I can honestly say that my favorites changed everyday during recruitment. I love the house I am in and although it was one of my favorites the first day, I had others I liked more the second day. While there might be one other house I would do well at, I would not at most and would never trade in my experiences with my chapter for anything. It can't hurt her to continue to go through recruitment. If nothing else, she will make more friends or on the plus side, she might fall in love with a different chapter.
