The Gamma Tau chapter of Psi Upsilon is Co-ed. Curious that they are done at the same time. I wonder how they do recruitment.

DoctorD 08-19-2009 11:18 PM

Quota was indeed 41. Alpha Gamma Delta has 42 new members.

How does that work. I hear quota and I assume that the max that can be pledged is that number. How does it work with going over?

Trust me, they are not competing for the same girls at all. The girls that would rushing PsiU would not be going through NPC rush. Just doesn't happen.

Nutshell explanation: Quota Additions.

PNMs who complete the entire Recruitment process in good faith (maximizing their options each round and attending all parties they are invited to) may still end up not getting matched due to each of their Pref Chapters having filled Quota by the time their name is reached on each Bid List. Chapters are then given "Quota Additions" by Panhellenic to match these women.

Those PNMs shouldn't be punished just because there weren't spaces left. The goal in setting Quota is twofold: match as many PNMs as possible and have as many Chapters reach Quota as possible. Had Panhellenic set Quota higher to account for these unmatched PNMs it would cause some Chapters to not meet Quota. It is better for (almost) all Chapters to reach Quota for I/natl reporting, PR purposes, etc. and then have a few get some extra members.

You know I actually pretty much assumed more or less the same thing honestly.

Thank you. That makes sense I think. Are quota additions given only if all the chapters are close to or at quota?

WVU alpha phi 08-20-2009 11:34 AM

Does anyone know how Alpha Phi did?

NUBlue&Blue 08-20-2009 11:42 AM

Sorry, haven't heard. I have one coming home to finally get her stuff so she can get moved in this weekend, and she may know by then. Last night they only knew how many they got because it gets really crazy and stays that way until they finally fall into bed (Bid day stuff at the house, dinner off site, back for Running for Roses....and there are LOTS of fraternities to hit!)

Panhellenics try to set Quota at a number so that the most possible Chapters can achieve it. But even if there are some Chapters not at Quota, PNMs can still be placed as Quota Additions.

Let's say a campus has 3 sororities: ABC, LMN, and XYZ. A girl attends the max of 2 Prefs at ABC and LMN and ranks them both on her Pref Card. ABC and LMN fill Quota before the girl's name is reached on either Bid List. XYZ didn't make Quota. The girl can be still placed as a Quota Addition in either ABC or LMN because she maximized her options and attended all the parties she was invited to.

I think I understand it now. Wow NPC recruitment is so complicated, I'm glad NIC is so much simpler.

FYI - H1N1 (swine flu) is spreading throughout the ZTA house at Tech. Please encourage everyone that you know to follow standard flu season practices - wash hands often, sanitize common areas, etc. It is still just the flu but take pre-cautions!

lovethativy 08-20-2009 09:08 PM

anyone know how many Alpha Phi took in their first formal recruitment?

One last question. What is the Pref card? Does signing it mean you will accept a bid if offered or is it something else.
