No one is going to say "Yeah, you should definitely do it! You'll get a bid!" because 1. they don't know you 2. they don't know the NPC sororities at your campus or how they choose new members.

Just my two cents from what I've been reading on here. Please, if anyone disagrees with me that is actually in a sorority, correct me. I just wanted to post what I've seen as the most common response. Please let me know if I stepped out of line.

Moral of the story? Do it if you want. No one is going to say yes or no. Ultimately, it is YOUR DECISION. This is YOUR RECRUITMENT at YOUR COLLEGE.

[off my soapbox]

Good newbie.

i want to do recruitment.
i would like encouragement from anyone that has done 2 sororities (service and social) that it is possible! and encouragement that i can manage my time
i dont want anyone telling me yes you have to do panhel. or no dont do panhel....just 'good luck!'

Well I don't know you so I don't know whether you are good at managing your time. Some people can barely balance school and a social life. Other people are involved in so many things and maintain a high GPA, you wonder if/when they sleep. Only you know how well you can manage your time.

If you are where I think you are, there are legit reasons (having nothing to do with the size of the girls) that the NPC groups are not down with service sororities that are kind of before your time.

It's not a question of the girls in GSS being "open" - it's a question of whether you are going to be half-assing one group or the other. Unless your GSS chapter really changes how they operate, someone is going to end up getting the short end of your stick.

It is possible to do a service and a social, but not if the service acts really really a lot like a social. (This includes having mixers, participating in Greek Week [rather than reffing or helping] and being paired with fraternities in other Greek activities.)

If it seems to be a problem, stress the fact that you love doing service projects (why you joined a service org?) and are really excited to get involved with the social sorority's philanthropy. I personally love when pnms show interest in philanthropy and not just "being in a sorority".

As for your sercive org I think you said it best:

I'm going to give it a shot

Good luck to you!! Can't wait to hear how everything ends up :)
