Most recruitment stories are kind of boring to me unless it's a campus that I know well, and then I enjoy them.
But other than those, I like the trainwrecks the best. Bring on the pink sequined hose if you're going to bring it. But as always, I can't figure out why the presence of stuff I'm not interested in is worth responding to. Most of Chit Chat is mind numbing, but no one complains. Come on people, the "what's for dinner" thread? Really? |
If you really want retro threads, do this:
1. Click on "Recruitment Stories" 2. Click on the last page 3. Work your way up. These are all real (as far as we know) and many are honest without being rude. As far as all the creative writing class peeps that have been coming here and writing rush stories....GO AWAY. WE ARE ON TO YOU. |

Isn't there a big difference between the "I'm getting married" threads and the retro recruitment threads? I mean, not putting down the importance in one's life of joining a fraternity or sorority, but getting married is a huge moment in one's life. I think that's more understandable then going into detail about their recruitment x number of years ago. |

why does anyone get so upset about these posts?
i thought it was an open site and welcome to one and all for the most part. why try to run people off? |
Oh, Tippie, look... you've attracted Tom.

We have threads about peoples more notable bowel movements... so does this really merit our attention?

What I'm trying to get at is that at least recruitment stories (and yes they are "stories" because we have so many fakers out there) possibly pertain to Greek Life in some way. There are more than plenty of threads that don't and people don't flip out about them. Most people just choose not to read them. |

Seriously don't you all have more important things to chat about like this years collection of handbags?

Personally, I think that some retro stories can be helpful to PNMs, because in some cases, they give an idea of how mutual selection works (just because you love XYZ doesn't mean the feeling is mutual), and some stories show that recruitment is not always successful -- I remember one story (I think it was set at USC) where the PNM did not receive any bids but came back to GC to say that she had gotten involved in other ways. I liked this thread so much, because it showed that the quality of one's college experience does not hinge on joining a GLO. Some retro threads are fun reading, because they are signs of the times, back when recruitment was rush. NOT helpful or fun are the high drama "brutally honest" retro threads that string on and on for weeks and months (although I do love Barbie's thread right now -- life's been stressful, and that thread is loaded with comic relief). Perhaps people wouldn't mind the retro threads so much if they were A) short, wrapping it up in 1-3 posts over a couple of days; B) concise, since we don't need to know the nitty gritty of every single conversation someone had at each house; and C) TRUE. Seriously, NaNoWriMo is in November, and the creative writing club can get more info about that here. |
