I'm more used to pig pickin's that happen a month or so prior to the wedding to honor the couple. They tend to be fairly casual. But yeah, if it's the wedding weekend, it could certainly be dressier. Location can matter, too. I don't think I've ever been to a wedding-related pig pickin' that I would call "very dressy," but I wouldn't say it never happens.

And if it's east of Raleigh, it ain't "central" NC. ;)

what about vv or lily style skirt and a color-coordinated fitted button-up blouse?

for the gentlemen in the party, khakis with oxford cloth long sleeveed shirts, no tie, and a navy blue blazer. if no one else is wearing a jacket, they can leave it in the car-they can always take a tie along in the car in case the majority at the party are wearing them.

Even if it's only by about 30 miles? It wasn't near the ocean, so I figured it was still pretty central. It was Smithfield. The pig was splayed out on the buffet table with the other "wedding" foods chicken, pasta, etc. An interesting mix of Yankee Italian and southern wedding. It really threw his buddies from U of Mich for a loop when they took him to a bar the night before an impromptu bachelor party only to find that it was a dry county and they had to brown bag their own liquor!

Oh yeah, that's Eastern NC. I have one friend who describes the line between Eastern and Central/Piedmont as I-95. (Specifically, what he says is that you can't get decent barbecue west of I-95.)

That said, Raleigh is borderline Eastern NC, depending on who you talk to. 20 miles west -- Durham and Chapel Hill -- are definitely not Eastern NC, but a lot of people consider Raleigh to be more eastern, both culturally and otherwise.

And yeah, I feel for them with the brown-bagging. :D
