What about if the guy is in a fraternity not related to IFC fraternities? A music fraternity for example... Would it be strange for him to lavaliere?

That said -- depending on which music fraternity you're talking about, you might want to check on any, say, national constitutional provisions that say it is inappropriate for anyone other than brothers to wear the Greek letters of that particular fraternity. ;)
