We have a case here in TN. WI, MN, NC, SC, Nebraska, IL, MO, and Maine are all pending confirmations.

Richardson school district has closed one elementary school for the week and the Clebourne school district announced it was closing before Fort Worth did. The state hs athletic association has asked for all athletic events to be cancelled for the near future. I am actually surprised that none of the districts along the border have closed as a precaution. Teachers are wondering if Gov. Goodhair might shut down all school districts in the state for a couple of days. |

You guys may or may not hear about it but The World Bank building here in downtown DC just shut down because it was discovered that one of the workers just returned from Mexico and is sick. ETA: Scratch that..here it is. |

Here in Houston, Episcopal hs is closed because a girl who never went to Mexico or came in contact with anyone who had (that they know of) is confirmed with N1H1. 2 schools in HISD are closed, but the rest of the district, as well as all the other districts are still open for business. |
there's a "real time" google map available of confirmed and potential cases.

A bunch of students who spent the last term student teaching in Mexico aren't permitted to go to Slippery Rock's graduation. Shockingly, they're not whining about it!
And there's a case in Philly. I hope like anything that it doesn't hit over in Western PA, with my horrible immune system. :( |

Which makes me think that maybe it would be better to get the swine flu now than to wait for it to become more deadly this fall? I have a great-uncle who died of the flu in 1918. My grandma used to tell stories of how they didn't even have much of a funeral for him becuase eveyone was so scared. |

We have an unconfirmed case here in my town in central WI - the guy was visiting San Diego. But according to the news today, the man was doing well after being quarantined in his own home. And because of this, I talked to a woman that was truly scared. Personally, I think it is all a hype right now. Influenza causes more deaths every year than this alleged 'pandemic'. People are panicking, rushing to get the flu vaccine (which will do NOTHING with this strain), etc. If I get sick with something (which I haven't gotten much more than a VERY slight cold in the past 5 or 6 years - even after spending the weekend with someone that had an actual case of influenza), so be it. No need to run around like Chicken Little - take basic precautions as with any illness but no need to blow it out of proportion!

Tarrant County (Fort Worth) Health Department: In the interest of public health and safety, has declared all outdoor public gatherings must be cancelled.
 |
About 70+ cases have been sent to the Florida Department of Health lab for testings. There are several possible cases in Tampa Bay and Orlando. I am actually surprised Florida was one of the first to have cases considering all the tourism.
I had to recommend sending one of my students home yesterday, she looked as pale as death....turns out she has to stay in bed until Monday. Being a teacher, I see a lot of people get sick, kids and faculty. We have a lot out this week to a stomach virus (me included), but it has nothing to do with the swine flu. There are some people who just over react. |
