I too think he'll kill himself.

This is kind of random, but SWTXBelle on this I'm four degrees of separation from you: You taught the killer's kids; he killed Ben Teague; Ben Teague's wife taught me at UGA.

SWTXBelle 04-27-2009 08:36 PM

Wow.

That might actually may an interesting thread - how many degrees are you separated from some GCers?

I think it would be too. I'm not completely secure with the idea of really outing my real life identity completely, but I think since in so many cases, there are really high connected people in our organizations, if you know one of these, you might only be two or three removed from from any other member.

I'll pm you a demonstration.

ETA: Has anyone else read The Tipping Point? I think Gladwell talks about people who are basically the connectors between others.

ETA: in the psycho from UGA example, Dr. Teague has probably taught thousands of students who are only one degree from her husband and of course, you've probably taught more than a thousand yourself, depending on how small your private schools are.

One of the articles I read mentioned that he has some kind of adjunct position with a university in The Netherlands. (Naturally, I'm reading everything I can find.) He had made plans to do some work there over the summer, but I think he's from the US.

They have not found his car.

This man is obviously a very bright person, not at all like the usual subpar intellects who kill and (try) to run.

I'm thinking that he's done some things to cover his trail that the authorities aren't yet willing to investigate. They seem to be convinced that he will try to get on a plane.

I'm not so sure.

Maybe changed up his appearance, or did a spray paint job on his car, or changed license plates with someone who hasn't yet realized it and made some serious tracks in an unexpected direction.

IF he's still alive, that is. And if so, he won't fool around if he thinks someone recognizes him.

The bold part seems really odd. What makes you think the authorities are holding off on investigating any possibilities? Watching the Atlanta coverage gives me the sense that it may be the highest priority in Georgia right now, and today the FBI joined in: http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/met...ch_athens.html

Obviously, the authorities haven't been successful yet, but the idea that they're holding off investigating how he might have covered his trail seems peculiar. It seems more likely that they could be limiting the information that they release to the press.

ETA: Okay, Capt. Holeman makes it seem completely like the could be doing a lot more. Why would anyone let that dude talk to press? "We're not doing anything special"? Really? I stand corrected Anchor Alum.

Prof wanted in killings found dead in Ga. woods

ATHENS, Ga. – A professor wanted for killing his wife and two other people at a community theater two weeks ago was found dead in the north Georgia woods Saturday, his body covered in brush and dirt, officials said.

Two guns were found with the body of marketing professor George Zinkhan, who vanished after the April 25 shootings near the University of Georgia, said Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Joseph Lumpkin.

The guns matched those described by witnesses to the shootings, though police did not say how they believe Zinkhan died. Authorities said they would not release a cause of death or say whether Zinkhan left a note until a press conference Tuesday.

Cadaver dogs found Zinkhan's body about 10 miles west of Athens in thick woods in Bogart, where he lived. Searchers — as many as 200 at one point — had been scouring the woods since his Jeep was found wrecked and abandoned in a ravine about a mile away a week ago.

Our daughter called an hour ago to tell us...thank the Lord. She said that all during finals, everyone kept looking over their shoulder.

honeychile 05-09-2009 10:14 PM

So how does the body of suicide come to be covered with "brush & dirt" or "covered with earth"?

SWTXBelle 05-09-2009 10:53 PM

I wondered the same thing - the article indicates it looked like he buried himself and then, I guess, shot himself. I'm just glad it's over - except of course for the suriviors of the victims, and his poor family.

AnchorAlum 05-09-2009 11:52 PM

Wow, was I wrong! And here I thought that marketing smart guy was on the run....instead, he's just another smelly rotting corpse that cadaver dogs found, proving once again that they have more on the ball than we humans....

Gosh, I feel awful for their children.

AGDee 05-10-2009 12:59 AM

Wow, I called that one right. I sure hope those kids get some intense therapy. I can't imagine knowing that your father murdered your mother and then killed himself. I don't know how anybody would cope with that.
