I think that chapter at U of A is back. like recently. I remember last semester the ASU adpi's going down there to colonize.

They just recolonized last fall. That's why I asked about total because we initiated like 150-160 girls.

Marsha Marsha Marsha!

I'm sorry to see the chapter close. Hopefully they can return relatively soon.

It's Marsha King Grady, actually. But I did say that to help remember her for my initiation test!

violetpretty, i thought the same thing when i read the article(that marsha, i always knew she was a sorority girl, wink, wink). i am just devastated that the lady's last name is grady.

it is so sad to hear that alpha chi is closing a chapter. i hope that the chapter will be able to reopen real soon.

I was devastated when I discovered what happened to the Beta Lambda chapter at UA, I can't imagine that happening. My school is a smaller private university, so the average size of each sorority is 70 girls.

Also, does anyone know how a chapter gets back on campus? Do you think its possible Alpha Chi could be back by next fall? Or is it more of a four year wait?

Thank you!

SWTXBelle 11-15-2009 08:19 AM

There usually is no time frame for returning - unless one was decided upon with the university (and even, sometimes, if there is - don't get me started about TX State . . . ) A Chi O will have to wait for the campus to open for expansion, present, and be selected. Since no return date was announced I would say that there are no present plans for Alpha Chi Omega to return. So sorry.

On most campuses, they have to wait until there is an opening for expansion. Also, they try to give each sorority a chance to have all their members graduate so that they are given a fair chance to come back with a clean slate. This is why it's usually at least 4 years. I'm so sorry for my sisters at UA. We had 4 chapters close on my campus when I was in school, and it was devastating for the members, many of whom were my friends.

Wow thats very depressing to hear, but thank you both SWTXBelle and BlueCarnation for your assistance :) I suppose I'll just have to keep my eyes open for the date! I might be unable to return to my school in IL Fall 2010 (right now I'm just on a break at community college to try to save enough money), so I was looking at the schools in AZ that had my chapter. I saw ASU did have an AXΩ chapter. How do I go about transferring to that chapter? I know I have to obviously be approved but thats the extent of my knowledge I have on the subject.

Maybe AXO will get to do the same thing as ADPi and take some time away from campus, rent out their house, and come back in 4-5 years. I really hope so.

I could have sworn that total was higher than 130, only because we initiated like between 150-160 girls in the fall. I thought I heard that they were raising total to like 175. Can anyone confirm?

I have no idea what total is there, but often colonies will be allowed to recruit to average chapter size if it's much higher than total. That could explain the difference in numbers.

Check with your HQ - every NPC has different policies, and some chapters have individual policies.

Just FYI, Arizona is now open and Chapter Total is 180.

LyreLove4Ever 11-19-2009 12:09 AM

Ok, thank you SWTXBelle :)
