Just a little background...This site was created to appeal to the 70% of "maybe joiners" and/or their parents. Although expansion has been steady during the last few years, there is still a need to educate non-Greeks about the benefits of Greek membership.
Research shows that many outside of Greek life have little or no idea of how to join, what our groups do, or info about the recruitment processes. Additionally, we all know about the helicopter parent and whether we like it or not their influence is a reality for many of institutions. Therefore reaching out to them and an attempt at education is important. Some schools have great integration of Greek Life into campus activities and new student orientation activities while others do not. This site and the others produced by NPC and Media Sauce will work as a 24/7 informational source for PNM's and their parents. This service will prove to be very useful in certain parts of the country where Greek Life is less part of the regional culture. We hope that this site will "open the door" for many women who originally did not think of or did not want to be Greek. The site will continue to evolve (others are yet to be released) and I would encourage you to sign up for the newsletter. The newsletter component does go into some of the more specific stories of how collegiate members are making a difference in their communities, etc. I have yet to see the data on how many women have taken the quiz or signed up for the newsletter, but when I hear I will let you know. |

In certain job fields and parts of the country, sororities have a very negative stereotype (You must have gotten drunk and partied tons in a college). I think a site like this is great to make them seem friendly to those who aren't familiar with them! For example, if my parents had seen a site like this, they may have been more at ease when I told them I was joining a sorority. I did have a few issues with the site though.... Under famous alums for philanthropy, they name Cindy McCain, but not Melinda Gates.....Melinda has done a lot more IMO. Did anyone else see any other alums missing? I had a bit of a problem with the recruitment section... In the picture it has a caption that says "Go through the entire recruitment process knowing that you will meet countless remarkable women who may be your friends no matter what sorority you join." IMO it makes it sound like you are guaranteed a bid if you go through recruitment.... |
