Having been borderline sexually harassed when I got pulled over in Strict Suburb (if we're talking about the same one LOL, if not it's probably the same situation) I can understand why he didn't say sir or ma'am. That speed trap crap is ridiculous, especially when there are REAL crimes going on, and some of those "officers" are complete assholes just because they can be. If they were in the Hill for 2 minutes they'd be crying like babies.

Sorry, what was the question?

Yeah, just make this V-Day your treat. It'll all even out.

I like that idea, too.

Alright, in that situation, with more details given, I would make the plans for Valentine's Day and insist that this one is your treat. That way, you can still do something special even though he's probably broke because of the ticket. "This one is on me.. you do special things for me all the time and it's MY turn to do it for you, you get Valentine's Day next year."

Pure poetry!

And what a good way of setting a precident for the future! Don't get a swelled head, but AGDee, I heart you! Thanks!

When you say "strict suburb" do you mean residential area? In those cases they WILL get you for 3 miles over unlike an interstate which they usually don't mess with you until 5 miles over.

I know at least in the State of Florida that you can get pulled over for 3 over, but I think that is the minimum...

During college, I worked for a city rec center, and some of the city cops would come in and tell us their speed trap stories...there were specific places they would ticket if you were even a few miles over the speed limit!

$177 does seem a bit excessive though....I have gotten pulled over before and the most I paid was $120 or something along those lines...

He would have been better off finding a way to make it to court. A simple change in tire pressure can cause your speedometer to be off to the 3mph rate which can be used as a valid excuse.

Sheer justice. I had to take a short trip this week, and was doing 85 mph - at least, that's what the speedometer said. I got stopped, and was informed that I was actually doing 94 mph. I have a lead foot at times. It was your perfect driving time. But that car was simply not capable of doing 94, and as I said, I had just looked at the speedometer, and have been told several times that it will register faster than you're really going, just so you will slow down. The Lawman said he was giving me a break and put 74 mph on the ticket (70 mph), so I wouldn't get any points. The ticket itself is $163.

I haven't decided if I'm going to fight it or not. Is it really worth the time & trouble, or is this the only revenue the town gets? Even if I do win, I'll lose at least one day's work, and have to pay to go back. Paybacks, I guess!

Yea for Pre-Paid Legal. My bogus Austin ticket (which I decided not to fight, because by the time I drove 6 hrs. and lost a day . . . well, it was easier to take defensive driving) is now taken care of - and if at all possible, I am staying the hell away from Austin. :)

I don't think I've ever started a thread here (if so, it was a while ago!), but I have a question:

You're out with Mr. Special; you've been dating for over a year. It's been a great night, and you're planning to take in a movie prior to a late night dinner. Mr. Special is driving in the left lane, going 3 miles over the speed limit, through Strict Suburb, and is pulled over for speeding and for changing lanes without using his turn signal.

Okay, he changed lanes once he saw the flashing lights, and THREE miles over the limit?? He is given a ticket for "just" the speeding, and not the changing lanes.

Knowing that he is dependent on his car for work, and you make more than he, do you offer to help pay for the ticket?

FYI, I did question why he didn't use "ma'am" to the police woman, or "sir" with the back up policeman. We're both convinced that she was being trained for speed traps. Luckily, he was able to go to Traffic School for a night so it won't show on his insurance.

Yeah, I would offer to pay.
