Hey people, let's try to keep the duplicate posts to a minimum please. Thanks.

Edited to say: I'm going to merge this with the 'I've got something to say" thread.

lah..dee..da..

Yes, James is correct. That moderator was me. :D *waves hands*

Perhaps moderators' discussion about a problem user would not take place if the user didn't give us something to talk about. ;)

Makes you wonder...

There is an old saying, you gather more flys with honey than you do vinegar. Dejadeva, you seem to be full of vinegar. However, you were just treated in a horrible way by your BF and you went through a very stressful time-rush. Everyones feelings are rather raw these days. IT's UNDERSTANDABLE! The people on these boards are so supportive. Everyone has had a disagreement with another member's opinion, but the boards continue on. The resources here are offered to you with open arms. James and Tom , Barbara, Carnation and so many others I can't begin to name, have experience and insight that they offer freely. Does everyone agree? No, but the conversation remains respectful-most "keep their gloves on". Go back and read what James said. No one wants you to leave. We all have had moments when our emotions got the better of us. This is a community and like any community, there will be differences that cause friction, but the truth is, each and everyone would reach out to you...if you let them.

Dejajeva 09-25-2001 11:41 AM

Why?

Otw...I'm sorry. Listen, I just don't understand when every effort I make to get along with you, you make a snide remark to/about me. I'm not a problem, and justamom, I really do appreciate your kindness, it actually makes me miss my mom. She's my best friend, and I work and go to school so much that I hardly see her because She's always at work too. Mom's are amazing people with such positive things to say. I have been stressed lately, and I seem to be scolded for it. 1- This horrible wtc event...2-Starting a brand new school in a brand new city with brand new people I've never met before now...3-I'm madly in love with a man who's too busy for me. THAT's why we broke up. His future is uncertain and he doesn't want me along for the bumpy ride. He wants to protect me. I worry about him...he's in the reserves and also in the police academy. If he get's called out, who knows where or when or if our future might be. 4- my mom's having surgury thursday. 5- I work two jobs plus go to school full time and I have to pay for everything (car, insu, phone) all myself. Yeah, I'm stressed and I break pretty easily. But...yesterday when I was extended my bid was the happiest I've been in two weeks. I was never depressed but it was just all so emotionally draining.
I've apologized a million times for the profanity and I've apologized for whatever I evidently did wrong to upset Carnation and OTW. All I ask for is to stop the premature judgments and bashing not only on these public forums, but in private. I have the feeling you ALL know what it's like to be stressed. Wouldn't you want support rather than always being torn down?
Get to know me, OTW...and Carnation.
You might actually like me.

:)

Those that have gotten to know me have shown their support through these posts.

zetaace..thanks for merging the two posts. :)

All in good fun and cheer,

Jessica

I don't understand what is so bad about what she is saying..maybe I'm on some crazy stuff, but are we not allowed to voice an opinion? Are we to be cautioned and silenced when we say things that not all agree with? Mere questions and concerns from the masa man.

Yes, we are all allowed to voice our opinion. I believe that the main issue was that certain comments posted in the past were not opinions, but, instead, insults directed at other GC members. Some insults are okay on this board. However, in this particular instance the poster crossed the line by using quite a bit of extremely foul language that many of us (moderators and non-moderators) found to be offensive. The posts have been edited now, so if someone wasn't around to see the original comments then that person probably wouldn't notice a problem. AND, since the posts HAVE been edited, that particular problem has been solved (in my book, anyway) and I think we should not dwell on it anymore. We've got tons of topics to discuss instead, so let's do that! :D

Also, just to clarify... The moderators on GC are here to make sure that posters follow basic rules of etiquette and to ensure that no threads get completely out of hand. If someone sends me an e-mail about a person they feel is trying to instigate problems among GC members, then it is part of my job to check it out, see if the complaint is a valid one, and, if so, notify the offending poster that he/she needs to use more discretion in his/her posts or risk being banned from Greek Chat altogether.

I think, overall, the moderators do a terrific job. We aren't trying to limit anyone's freedom of speech. We're just trying to keep people from creating flame wars on GC. In the past, some moderators have received hateful, threatening, anonymous e-mails from disgruntled posters which I think is completely uncalled for, especially considering that the mods are just trying to make GC a board that we all can be proud of.

I've visited other greek chat boards where the moderators don't censor anything and many of the posts are from rude, immature, uneducated and completely offensive people. In my opinion, we've got a great thing going here at GC and I want to keep it that way! :)

carnation 09-25-2001 12:43 PM

Damasa, as long as a poster doesn't use obscene language (which dejajeva did and many GCers complained to me about privately) or flame someone in an ugly and undeserved way or obviously try to start a fight, the poster is unlikely to get flamed. We have many disagreements on this board but normally, they're short-lived and fairly civil.

But people need to remember...freedom of speech works two ways. If dejajeva wants to insult OTW by calling her oohteenywhiner, then OTW has the right to return the insult if she so chooses. If dejajeva wants to post a message with offensive language, then people who are offended have the right to respond. Likewise, if she wants to say something that has the potential to start a fight (like her comments about the WTC), she must be well aware that arrows will come her way. (No pun intended.)

A mature GCer will not post a provocative message and then complain about the results it engenders!

Dejajeva:

apologize
kiss
make-up
maybe give a hug

forgiven...forgotten

and the earth will continue to rotate at it's former, steady pace that it was at before someone decided the apocalypse was upon us because you used a curse word, or whatever.

Everyone walks away from the fight fully in tact...no one persists (on either side) to make themselves look bad and GC is a safe haven once again for intelligent Greeks.

Wow, what a preposterous idea?
No, wait....sensible....yeah, it's a sensible, smart idea

Oh happy world!!!

Petty, petty shit

edited to say: after I reread this I decided I must be either Schizophrenic, or the world's biggest smart-ass

dually noted and accepted, although I feel that there have been a few inappropriate posts by some mods in the recent past, I will refrain from using names, but I don't think that a mod should accuse a gc user of breaking into forums and whatnot. I know that the mods here do an excellent job, but sometimes I feel that ppl are trying to get posts censored because they simply do not like something in the post. I think that some mods may be partial to these demands because they may have become good friends with the certian user/users on gc. Ah well, no more to say really.....just bored at work.

This is all my fault

This whole thing started because of me. There is nothing else to say about it. Me and Deja were flirting on a post, and OTW was reminded of the unfortunate incidents of this past spring. Then it spiraled out of controll. Can we please drop it now?

Dejajeva 09-25-2001 03:14 PM

You know, billy. You're such a great guy. It wasn't your fault. I was only offended by zetagirly's offensive language- so I replied in the same manner.

I've apologized a million times and there is nothing more I can say.

I will be the mature one here, and let it go.

Moderator, please close this thread.

Thanks,

Jess
