As for the sockpuppets, and by that I really mean just new screennames of banned users who can't go away, that would be a helpful list. I think someone else here has been able to track spammers/trolls IP addresses, too?

I would assume that would have to be the administrator; I don't know that our IP addresses show up anywhere in our posts or anywhere else on the site, and I don't think moderators or super moderators have access to that info.

Well there was someone here - maybe Benzgirl or nittanyalum? - who was somehow tracing when trolls were the same person...

When I was a mod, there was a thing on the bottom right corner of the posts I could click to see the user's IP address. I only had access to the IP addresses for the posts in the forums I modded. It's been years since then, so I don't know if the current software still allows for that. There's a lot of stuff we regular people don't see.

If John granted Super Mod status that includes banning people, I think they'd have access to IP info as well.

I agree. It's like looking into the mirror and calling "Bloody Mary" 3 times. Sometimes you might get lucky and she won't show up, and sometimes she'll show up in full force! lol.

I don't know what this means...
Is this an actual GCer or a literary reference?

Per The Wiki:
Bloody Mary is a ghost or witch featured in Western folklore. She is said to appear in a mirror when her name is called three times (or sometimes more, depending upon the version of the story), often as part of a game at slumber parties.

Seriously? You haven't played "Bloody Mary?" No it's not a GC reference.

ETA: Just saw that MysticCat & I posted at the same time. That is "Bloody Mary."

I guess we were too busy at slumber parties putting each other's bras in the freezer and trying to lift someone with only our index fingers! :)

^^ This type of thing is why I thought the thread would be entertaining.

I think there's only a handful of us left who know the Sheetcake story. ;)

I think both of us were keeping track for a while. Mine began with the Allona/Cedric/Jolly Greek Giant/etc. I let it die for maybe 9 months, then it came back as Pew Buck and wished me the creepiest Happy Birthday.

Of course, we have TEITY. Even when he tries to disguise his posts, we know it is him. His one liners with misspelled words and misuse of the English language are too easy. I just sit back and imagine him having the DTs when he tries to abstain from smilies. Eh, he probably just downs another shot to calm his nerves.

The "fun" sockpuppets have stories that won't be told to the general public of GC. They prefer to stay hidden in the backdrop of inside jokes. In other words, you'll never be able to know the stories behind them. Just enjoy the cheer they spread across GC. :)

Perhaps you could put these people on the [strike]case[/strike]cake.

That makes sense - it makes sense that mods would have access to that information, at least in their own forums.

I really have no idea, though; never been a moderator and never really discussed it with anyone who is.
