Friend = probably telling one of those hazing "fish tales" that boys like to tell.

"I swear dude, we pledged this hard and we had to do *insert ridiculously grandiose hazing story here*"

Sidenote: is there a point to you poting this on the internet. I mean, really?

That's just gross- but I think I saw that one too.

Thank you for getting "Reading Rainbow" stuck in my head.

It was stuck in my head before the post, which is pretty much the reason I said it. It just happened to coincide.

This post makes me think that because of this one person in CO, ALL the greeks there must be dumb as a box of rocks.

first of all, the rumor you heard about DKE "hospitalizing" a kid is not true.

greek life is taken pretty seriously in the south, particularly at alabama. hazing does occur. everyone knows it, but no one will admit to it. it is definitely not condoned and is taken very seriously by the university. however, all new boys know that the last thing they want to do is rat/call the hotline

LXAAlum 01-09-2009 05:15 PM

Um, not all of us in Colorado are as dumb as a box of rocks....maybe a small basket, but not a box.

Secondly, one persons story of alleged hazing at one chapter at one school in the south being extrapolated to mean ALL chapters at ALL schools in the south haze is a classic Hasty Generalization fallacy...there is insufficient evidence to back your claim.

Reminds me of the old "my cousin's boyfriend's sisters roomate's best friend has a cousin, twice removed, that saw a story on a blog about a hazing incident....." which is mistaken for "undeniable evidence" or proof that something happened...sometime...somewhere....

Wait! You mean it's not true?!!!? Cuz I heard it was!

LXAAlum 01-09-2009 05:30 PM

That's what I love about the rumor mill...it's given more credibility than any other channel of communication...even in business.

I heard it = therefore it is true.

Objectivity and research of facts is sorely lacking in today's society.

southern hazing

So are u comparing the whole of your colorado school to one frat in alabama? U do know they have killed pledges in california right?

alkerjk 01-21-2009 04:11 PM

I'm a member of a fraternity at a school in the south, and we do not haze. Therefore, it is impossible that any chapter of any fraternity in the south can haze. Ignore any news articles or reports that you have heard, they are false.
