You can always ask a friend. :)

Yeah for a barn dance! :) Our date party coming up is the same theme. My problem is all of my guy friends are busy that day, and I sure don't have anyone who I'm interested in right now. So any suggestion where to go looking for a date?

i feel the urge to share a little story. so there's this guy, matt, who i've taken to three date functions...haven not actually asked him to any myself.
the first one was a rock climbing date party. i had thought matt was hot for the entire year but didn't know him...my pledge mom, however, was friends with him...so i got her to set me up with him (which i guess was a big deal because apparently he hates being set up). this was my first semester as a dg
then, the next semester was semi-formal. i was actually in the hospital for the week and a half prior to the event (i got out the day of). i was social chair at this point, so i had to go...but being in the hospital made things a bit tough. i emailed a couple of my friends to ask them, but they were all otherwise occupied that day. then one night, i get a phone call from two girls in my chapter, telling me that i had a date...matt. a few days before the event, he imed me and asked what i was doing saturday night. i told him i had a semi-formal and asked if he wanted to come. he told me he had plans...it was actually a pretty cute convo.
ok, then the next semester (last semester) came formal. ours was the same date as 9 fraternities (note, at the time, we only had 11)...and the vast majority of the guys i know are in those houses. i was at a party, and was talking to matt...who proceeded to make fun of me for being the world's worst social chair (even though i wasn't, he liked to tease me about being responsible for this mess), and he kept telling me how i was never gonna get a date. well, i told one of my sisters, and she was like "oh no! no one does that to sarah!" and left. i went to go check on something, and when i came back, i heard a rumor i had a formal date. i went to matt, and he was like "i'm going to your formal." i said "ok." "with you" he said. i was like..."ok, is that ok with you." he said of course. yes, my darling kim, in her drunken state had told him that he was going with me.
so yes, matt has been my date three times...and i haven't actually asked him myself to any of them...but i've had a good time with each, so it's all turned out :)

DeltaBetaBaby, you're ADORABLE! I love that you come up with these creative ways.

What kind of event is it? Give us a clue so we can help.

Write it in front of his house during the night with sidewalk chalk.

I've already used that one!

It is a barndance, so someone suggested getting him a cowboy hat, but then what do I do?

sororitygirl2 10-13-2002 07:23 PM

Maybe you could get several barndance type things and leave them as clues each day with little notes or something.

One day, tie a bandana to his car antenna. The next, leave a cowboy hat at his house. Give a water gun to one of his professors to give to him in class. On the last gift, have a note telling him that he should be wearing all these things Friday night and you will pick him up.

I don't know... that may be kind of lame. I'm sort of out of practice as I haven't had to think of these creative ways to ask boys now that I am an alumna!

Optimist Prime 10-13-2002 07:24 PM

put the invatation inside the cowboy hat?

guys are no good at these things

Peaches-n-Cream 10-13-2002 07:36 PM

I'm not very good at asking men out. :( I'm not sure what a barn dance is.

sororitygirl2 has good ideas. Give him the cowboy hat and a bandana with an invitation. You can always lasso him and invite for a roll in the hay. ;)
