Perhaps the competition for Big/Lil is a bit fierce this year... I know in my chapter, that was definitely the case, and people did get irritated with the "stalking" that went on. We ended up in a situation where many of the new girls asked for the same Bigs, and many of the actives wanted the same Littles, so it was tough to match them up.

Still, if you're not doing anything blatantly illegal, there is no other reason to be mad at you for befriending the new pledge class except jealousy. Maybe back off just a bit, focus on ONE new girl instead of domineering the entire PC, OR, include more active sisters in your plans with the new girls.

I agree with this. It's possible that the sister who told you that you were getting too close to the new members thinks you're trying to hang with the new members all the time so that they can like you and you can have your pick of Little Sisters when that time comes.

Ah, well, I let my emotions get the best of me. [Please hear me saying this in a slightly joking tone. I'm not a mean person.] I do appriciate your responce which IS actually helpful, and made me realize that I probably should have gone elsewhere for help, but wouldn't you jump to defend your chapter first in a similar situation?

To everyone else who gave me legitimate responces, thanks. I was furious when I typed my initial post, and I've calmed down since then, partially due to the response here. :D

one of the concerns that we had about getting too close with our pledges is that they would forget that they were pledging rather than just hanging out with friends. The line between active status and pledge gets blurred and then they start stepping on toes and not taking their pledge semester seriously.

for ex: pledge johnny blew off study hours because he's super close with Pledge Master Dave and doesnt think it will be a big deal.

we've definitely had put a few pledges in place who got too chummy with the actives and started back talking and not taking care of their pledge duties.
