Yes if you just decided sorority life is not for you or that you didn't get the invites you wanted - now is a very bad time to try to tell Mama "oh I just didn't get a bid." |
For the moms who are wondering why they haven't heard from their daughters tonight, the pref parties were originally scheduled to be over at 8:20 tonight. A friend of mine who is an alum helping with Rush was told this morning that an extra party has been added so that the groups won't be so huge. She and I are assuming that means the final party will be over about 10. She didn't have specifics.
|
Hmmm....that's really interesting. I am here helping too and we weren't told any such thing. According to our schedule there are the 5 original rounds and it ends at 8:20 pm. Could they have different schedules?
|
CMD, If you are there "on the ground," I suspect your information is better than mine. Perhaps my friend had mistakenly thought there were only 4 rounds and when she heard there were 5, she thought one had been added. I'm sorry I posted what has turned out to be erroneous information. :o

I'm here in Oxford. My DD also thought she would be finished around 8:30ish. We were going to have a late dinner together because she said many friends were doing separate things rather than hang together. (I told her she could hang with her friends, I didn't need to see her tonight. But she indicated many are stressed and a little scared so they were not going to get together ...or at least that's what she said at 12:45 when she left.)
But after my DD left to go to pref parties, I got a text from her roommate's boyfriend saying that her last round ends at 9:40. That makes sense now based on what y'all are saying. A few more tidbits from "the ground" -it's raining...It's not a washout at the moment, but we just had a heavy shower move through. More to come....ugh. -the rain is ushering in a cold front tomorrow. Should be heavy rain overnight and in morning and cloudy with potentially more rain in afternoon....:-( But temps will be dropping. It was HOT today...upper 80s. Tomorrow's high is 70! -Until I got to campus I didn't understand what y'all meant by "tent talk"..... Ah! Now I get it. (There are tents in front of each house where girls wait ...Had no clue!) -Overheard in the lobby of my daughter's dorm (NOTE: THIS WAS OVERHEARD AND NOT ACCURATE! The girl who worked the desk said it to another mom sitting in lobby. I didn't say a word, just smiled.....) : The cuts this year were brutal because of new sorority coming to campus. There were 5000 girls going through rush and they cut 1200 the first day. Second day they cut 800. (SERIOUSLY?? I knew from GC that the number of PNMs who registered was about 1300-1400.) Oh well, I hope all goes well for all the girls....and I really hope the rain holds out until after 10 and is finished by 2:30 tomorrow afternoon!! |

And yes, I am on pins & needles tonight!!! Can't wait for Bid Day! |
DD wanted to go eat a late dinner tonight.
I know they have to stay in dorms tonight and I'm not trying to get around that at all. But if the pref rounds are done by 9:40, then they have to rank...and say not done until 10 or so. I'm wondering how much time we would have. Are the Gamma Chis going to do a bed check at a certain time or something?? Definitely don't want to break any rules....just not sure of specifics. Anybody know about this? Thanks... |
They do not want the girls out celebrating. I doubt they will do bed checks, but might be better for you to get something take out and have dinner in her dorm room with her & her roomie.
|
Great, thanks. I just sent DD a text suggesting that....Waiting to hear but I'm sure they have long lines to rank. Thank goodness the rain held off. There's a heavy line of storms on its way.
Thanks to everyone!! Good luck to all the PNMs and moms! |
Good morning everyone!!
Looks like the rain has cleared out already, but that means the temperature has DROPPED! It is currently 55! I wonder how many girls will still be out in baggy t-shirts and shorts? Good luck to everyone today. DD felt good about pref night. Said she found a house where she seems very comfortable and they seem to welcome her. Saying a few prayers this morning for all the girls! Oh and I learned that only girls who went to one house at at a certain time ended at 9:40 last night.... Good luck to everyone! |
Good luck to everyone today!!! Each and every house on campus is awesome!

|
^^^you crack me up!
|
And you survived another one!
|
my friend just called me and her nephew got his first choice after a very rough and hard cut rush-- I am so happy for him and can not wait to hear how the girls did!!!!
|
Are any of the (alleged) live cams on campus positioned to show the girls getting their bids? I say alleged because the Union camera is still showing that it is night time. The view on the Food Court camera might be live, but the time stamp is from August.
|
Does anyone know what quota is at Ole Miss?
|
I hate it that some of the live cams are down....I am sure there will be YouTube postings afterwards, but can't find anything live. My niece is out there somewhere, I am so excited and so far away. Aaarrgh.

Quota
I heard the group I have a lot of friends in took 119 - and I'm guessing that quota must be around that number.
The boys had some hard cuts I heard. My sons' fraternity took 101 of 107 bids they gave . That's a huge pledge class. Good look learning all those names and hometowns, bless em. Holding my breath til 3:15, best of luck to PNMs, actives, and moms. |
Some are saying that if your third choice ranked you higher than your first or second you will end up with third choice.
Can someone help me and my very nervous pnm? |

Pledge list
I have a friend going through sorority recruitment at Ole Miss. Where and when can I find a list of pledges?

Every house on this campus is amazing and rush is very competitive. Your daughter is lucky to have a bid in the first place. Any bid means she has had a successful recruitment. Like some PPs have said, if she can't make the best of whatever she ends up with, that is a reflection on your daughter. And if you can't be okay with whatever happens as long as your daughter is in an environment where she will be able to be happy and grow (which is any sorority at Ole Miss)...well then I have no words. Stop obsessing and trust the process. Your daughter will end up where she is meant to, and that's all anyone can hope for. |
