I can't agree. I have had several mechanics (of different nationalities) tell me BP is "bad gas". They always have recommended Sonoco, Citgo and Shell.

Yesterday evening, DH filled up his car, paying $4.089/gal for regular.

This morning, I saw they were getting $4.149 for regular.

This evening, I saw one of the staff members changing the sign as I drove by. The new price for regular: $4.219.

So, prices were raised twice in a 24-hour period, by a total of 13 cents per gallon.

And it's not even Memorial Day weekend yet.

:(

Here it rose 11 cents by the time I got off of work.

Two gas stations here in town offered regular gas for $3.00/gal today only. At 10:00 a.m. this morning, both stations had lines to go down the street for several miles. It was so bad, that traffic had to be cut down to one lane only while the police directed traffic. They only allowed cars to use one entrance to the station. I got this report from my mom. I was safe at work. I am not about to fight for gas.

I saw several stations that had premium gas from $4.15-$4.21/gal. Darn my car for not taking regular! lol :p

Since I don't know too much about economics, has the supply really dipped down or has demand shot through the roof?

I am soooooo glad I don't drive.

At the minimum, I hope this encourages people with access to public transportation to actually use it (as opposed to my husband's loony friends who choose to drive into DC and spend so long looking for parking that it would be faster to Metro anyway).

Until Citgo decreases their price by the 11 cent difference, then I'll just have bad gas.

Yes, you may quote that for posterity.

I heard this and then started paying attention. I swear that the gas down the street from me does not last as long as the gas I get from the grocery store.

I had 1/2 a tank last night but filled up because I knew gas prices were just going to go up, up, up over Memorial Day weekend. I paid $3.85 a gallon. I'm still in shock that it's gotten this expensive.

Have you all noticed that traffic is lighter now? I've noticed that my commute to work isn't as treacherous. My dad was telling me that he did the drive from Ft. Lauderdale to West Palm on I-95 a few days ago during rush hour, which is usually bumper to bumper, and he said it was almost like a ghost town. Also, a couple of people at my work who work in HR and Administration were mentioning that MARTA usage at my work (MARTA is Atlanta's subway/train) increased by 15% just in the last month!

Can either one of you detail just what you mean?
Gas is gas. It is cross-sold by the companies all the time.

KatieKate1244 05-23-2008 08:25 AM

Some stations are at $4.20 this morning. All the others are still $3.99, though.

The supply is there - just not being released by OPEC. Basically it is greed on the part of MANY different entities involved in oil and gas. Oil companies have been posting ever increasing record profits - and the state and federal governments are LOVING these high prices because it means more tax revenue. Unfortunately all other aspects of the economy are hurting - obviously consumers/drivers are hit hardest but also tourism since people won't be traveling as much.
