Maybe Voldemort will finally die for good. Oh wait, that's right, that would make it impossible to have a seventh book. My bad.

So there was a thread already started about this but since this is the most complete Harry Potter one I want to post this here anyways.

From CNN:

Rowling: Another Potter character to die
"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling said Friday that one of her characters will not survive the next book in her series about the young wizard.

Potter Story

So who do you think its going to be? I am going to guess a Weasley or Neville or Dumbledor (sp?).

GPhiLlama 10-10-2004 06:33 PM

I'm voting for Neville right now. Although, she did say that she wants to flesh out his backstory...

velouria 10-11-2004 12:19 AM

My money is on Ron Weasley.

He's always just kind of been a support character. After much thinking (yes, I'm this much of a nerd) I've decided that I think Ron will die.

There actually have been some theories on that. So you aren't alone in that claim.

My bets are obvious: Dumbledore and quite possibly, Hagrid.

one can only hope.

The way she has been writing the books it will be someone we don't expect.

I didn't expect her to kill Cedric in the 4th book. As for Sirious, unfortunately prior to me reading the 5th book, POA came out and I read an article in Entertainment Weekly and well Gary Oldman thought he should express how "upset he was that his character died in the 5th book". So Gary Oldman ruined the 5th book for me prior to me getting to read it.

I think Dumbledore and Hagrid are just to obvious. I also think the same thing goes for Ron and Hermoine.

Now we are assuming it is a "main" character, when in fact all she said was that she was planning to kill a character off. For all we know it could be another person in the Order of Phoenix (like Lupin or something).

I personally think it will be some random character, someone whom she has mentioned in at least the fourth and fifth book and who is kind of important but not really.

Hey maybe it will be Malfoy. Oh wait we need the conflict. But wait the books will still have conflict without Malfoy around. So my vote is Malfoy. :)

tunatartare 10-11-2004 12:42 PM

Maybe Snape? Or one of the Dursleys? In the 5th book, didn't a dementor try to "kiss" Dudley?

aephi alum 10-11-2004 12:55 PM

Well, it can't be Harry and it can't be You-Know-Who - we need them around for Book 7.

I doubt it'll be Ron. When he looked into the Mirror of Erised in Book 1, he saw himself as Head Boy and Quidditch captain. The grounds for his achieving these positions (being named a prefect and making the Quidditch team, respectively) were laid in Book 5. So I suspect he'll survive Book 6 and fulfill his desire as seen in the mirror. (Besides, he still hasn't hooked up with Hermione. ;) )

I hope it isn't Hermione! :( She's a supporting character, but a pretty major one.

I think it will be a minor supporting character, but one of the "good guys" - not Malfoy or his henchmen, Malfoy senior, any of the Dursleys, etc. One of the other Weasleys perhaps?

Slight hijack: It's been a while since I've read Book 5. Is Harry's Quidditch ban still in effect as of the end of the book? Quidditch just isn't Quidditch without Harry on the team... :(

The mirror shows you what you wish for, not what you will get.

The mirror showed harry his dead parents.

Neville Longbottom?
His character's history has taken a quantum leap w/ OOTP.

True, but in Ron's case, what he wanted is a possibility for the future, rather than something that is impossible because of events in the past. I suspect Ron's wish to be Head Boy and Quidditch captain will come true.

why don't we keep all of this in the Harry Potter Speculation thread. That way we've got all of it in one place, instead of spread out over 2 threads.

Just an idea.

I second this idea. Can we merge these threads?

That's who popped into my mind when I heard this. I think it will be him just b/c of all the speculation that he might be the half-blood prince...I think he's going to play heavily in the next installment, so it would make sense to kill him. I wish it would be Percy Weasley, though.
