This is an urban legend...Reese is not a Gamma Phi Beta. But, I still like her!

Reese is her mother's maiden name, her given name is Laura. So is Laura Witherspoon a Gamma Phi from Stanford?

Sciencewoman 08-17-2012 09:08 PM

I did know that about her name. I had heard the rumor about Reese being a Gamma Phi, and I've even seen it on some our chapters' websites, but I am sure she is not. I questioned it when I first heard this, because our Stanford chapter was open from 1905-1992, so it was closed before her time. Also, I am sure that she would be listed in the notable alumnae section of our website, and I'm sure she would have received the Carnation Award by now, like Kristen Chenoweth and Cloris Leachman. She's not in our database under any of these names, and these other women are.

As much I would love to be her sister, Reese is NOT a Gamma Phi Beta!

Jackie Kennedy went to a college without GLOs; Princess Grace didn't attend college (if she did, it was for a very brief time).

Reese Witherspoon is a Gamma Phi Beta.

Sarah Jessica Parker is most probably a Sigma Kappa.

Theta Phi Alpha can authentically claim The 700 Club's former Miss America, Terry Meeuwsen.

Add Terry Meeuwsen to the list for Theta Phi Alpha, as she is also not a member. She was actually a member of Theta Phi, a local sorority.

I don't know how old that quoted post is above but SJP isn't in any Greek org. She was a little too busy doing things like being in Footloose to go to college. :)

Really? Somewhere, in the boxes of my life (scattered between two cities and storage units), is an ancient monthly magazine similar to a mini-Bairds. She had just been crowned Miss America, and she was on the cover. Every state represented by a sorority was also mentioned. It was in the ADPi suite when I rushed, and opened to the ADPis, of course.

Does anybody else remember that magazine? I can remember that there were pillars on the left hand side. IT WAS something BANTA!!

She's not in our member lookup. The organization she was initiated into, Theta Phi, was Theta Phi Alpha's Alpha Delta chapter up until 1971 when they broke off to form their own local. That means she would've juuuust missed it! We are currently recolonizing our Alpha Delta chapter, however.

When I was in college I heard that rumor too. I was kind of sad about not having Wonder Woman as a sister. :(

When I was in school I was told that Pat Nixon (President Nixon's wife) was a Kappa Delta. Imagine my surprise when her name was not at the memorial service during convention. It was actually Jean Lowry Nixon, the authoress of children's books, who was a Kappa Delta.

Morris Chestnut is still not an Omega. Even his hesitant "hook" in The Best Man Holiday can't change that.

LOL I saw that and wondered if he purposely made it a little "off." Rumors were floating around that he's actually a Sigma and those have been debunked as well.

Wikipedia say Master P is an Omega. Is that legit or just Wiki fodder?

IndianaSigKap 11-18-2013 10:15 PM

I doubt Percy Miller (Master P) is an Omega. He went to Houston, I think, on a basketball scholarship but dropped out before basketball season started and then he went to some small school. Don't think he lasted long there either. I remember seeing an interview with him about how wanted to make sure his kids have college degrees since he doesn't.

LOL. He looked like the writers and directors forced him to do that "hook". He made it quick as hell as though he prayed no one noticed it. LOL.

Morris is non-Greek and fine nonetheless. :)

Probably Wikipedia fodder. While there are BGLO members who didn't graduate college and there are eternal (insert title prior to initiation), I doubt Master Percy Miller is Greek. His handsome son (who it took me a while to consider handsome) is also non-Greek. If he decides to become Greek, I hope they stop showing those ICDC college commercials. LOL.
