Right.

There is a lot of talk about which groups on which campus take a lot of instate or out of state girls. But you really can't tell the stories behind each bid from a bid list. There might be ten out of state girls on a list, but they might all be chapter legacies. :)

I noticed quite a few California G Phi Bs.

APhi4Ever 08-19-2012 03:53 PM

Alpha Phi pledged 41 women from Alabama out of 111 on the list that we issued bids to. That's quite a lot since we are not known as much as other NPC groups in the South.

I look at a Bid List like that too. Location, location, location. IMHO, if you are a strong rushing chapter at, say, the University of Alabama, you will be strong in the big cities from that state. Don't get me wrong, there are wonderful girls pledged from Dallas and Chicago and Bucksnort, TN, but at the big state schools, you want to be strong in that state.

i don't understand why you would say this, after all the "every chapter is a wonderful chapter" comments that are seen around here.

UA has over 50% OOS enrollment now. that means that probably 50% of the PNMs are from OOS.

of course there are going to be some chapters that have mostly or a majority of in state girls.

i think it would be kind of cool to have sisters from all over the map!

Beaumom 08-19-2012 06:03 PM

I agree mikew...I enjoyed having sisters from all over the country.

If you look closely it looks like there are a few from abroad and Canada!

Roll Tide!

We always thought that the non-Florida girls were exotic-even if they were from Delaware or New Jersey!

That is indeed the case at UofA (and probably many SEC campuses) -- even though the strong rushing chapters at UofA are also well-represented by OOS new members.

I'm really surprised at the OOS numbers and variety of states UofA has attracted -- hope this eventually improves the public (national) perception of Alabama (I can say that -- I live here ;) ).

THANK YOU!!!!! finally SOMEONE who gets it.

i saw a stat today that only 35ish% of the girls who received bids were in-state girls.

idk if that is accurate or not, but if so, i guess there should be no worries about PNMs being from OOS.

I looked over Titchou's graciously copied list, and I counted almost two-thirds of the girls being out-of-state!! Contrast that with 2002, the year before Dr. Robert Witt took over as UA President where less than a third of the much-smaller number of girls receiving bids were from outside Alabama. He really was the greek system's best friend at Bama!!

I had one of those out of state girls! After ALL the worry, sleepless nights, stomach pains...(these were all my issues, D was fine), she is now my sister!

After the first round of parties she was so excited! She called before the first cut and said she would be happy if she got 4-6 invites. We had to wait unitl 4pm the next day to learn that she had 12 invitations (the max)!

Then came rain, hail, winds...more delays! Round three she maxed out again with 8 invites. She loved all of the skits and had fun staying so busy (she's a bit hyper).

Friday morning seemed to take forever to come but when it did she was thrilled to pref her top 3 houses. She wasn't supposed to text or talk but she snapped a pic of her list and texted me. This made my 9 hour drive so much more relaxed! After pref she stated that she would be completly happy with any of her top 3 choices, but had fallen in love with her legacy house!!

ANYONE who is considering Bama for recruitment, please don't feel threatened by this very intense process! Hell week for the moms but a wonderful week for the girls!

Thank you but it actually came from SWTXBelle. She just couldn't open it and so sent it to me to try. I just did her bidding!
