Wow, can't believe all the sororities at VTech (except one) are significantly over total. Has their been any talk of expansion at their school?

VT total

If I remember correctly, they raised total 10 last spring after FR, and they haven't re-evaluated yet this spring. The past two years quota has been 51, which is significantly larger than in previous years. I haven't heard any direrct talk of expansion yet, but I am only an advisor from a distance, not located on the campus (or even in the state!) to know if those conversations have begun.

The University of Puget Sound finished formal recruitment on Jan 25th. It was the largest recruitment in about 15 years, with 130 women receiving bids, up from 88 last year! Quota was 32 - and Pi Beta Phi has 34 new members!!!

That's fantastic! If a very strong recruitment becomes a trend, perhaps one or more of the closed chapters would be able to recolonize. I'd love to see more chapters around here :)

Elon University, NC

Alpha Chi Omega: 44
Alpha Xi Delta: 41 (per Elon recruitment thread)

Oh, and you have ASA's closing date correct.

While I agree with you thetygerlily - there were 6 sororities and 6 fraternities when I was an active, and now we are down to 4 sororities and 3 fraternities - I really wonder how well any chapter would do now that everyone has a chapter house.

When I was an undergrad, 2 of the sororities had chapter houses on our greek row, and 4 were housed on the main campus in dorms that were solely occupied by each sorority. They were very nice dorms, and each chapter had exclusive use of their dorm and had a large chapter room and kitchen that was also exclusively theirs.

I just have to wonder how a group coming in could be competitive with the 4 other sororities with houses. And houses are owned by the university (the chapters have a sort of lease), and I cannot imagine the university building new houses for any new groups. There also isn't a lot of room on Union Avenue where the existing 8 houses are.

That all being said, it looks like one more fraternity will be colonizing next year and will have the old Sigma Nu house to occupy. That is pretty exciting!
And I am beyond thrilled to have 130 more greek women on campus!!!

I definitely did see this on Twitter, but according to the Kappa website, they have 80 new members. Either way, oh boy!!! They will be installed in March 2010 (which seems really soon to me).
