YES YES YES

I'm riding my scooter this summer. 47mpg.

That original post really upsets me...

It doesn't take a genius to figure all this out.

Tell me what you think.

I just had to quote this OP after crusse mentioned it. I mean $10 for a half full tank?! I'm curious what the OP was driving. I have a Civic so pretty small gas tank and I'm paying about $30 and I usually put in 9 gallons. The F150 on the other hand...

When I had my Elantra back in 2000, $10 was a full tank (or close to it).

This is so depressing. I'm almost happy I didn't start driving until like 2005ish and didn't start filling up my own gas tank until 2007. The first couple years Dad and I shared the car.

aephi alum 02-26-2011 01:02 AM

Got a fill-up the other day and dropped over $40 - and I never let my gas gauge get under 1/4. The Princess only drinks Veuve Clicquot - Korbel won't cut it. I'm so glad I work from home... the Princess and I only run errands in and around Stepford.

I remember the days when you could get gas for 75 cents a gallon.

I miss the days when you could get gas for 75 cents a gallon.

We filled up the tank last night - cost over $50.

Some unspecified number of years before 2000, as I was gathering my stuff to go home for the summer after my freshman year, my goal was to find $10 in loose change, dollar bills stuffed in pockets, whatever. I knew if I had $10, I could fill the tank and get a fountain drink and pack of gum for the trip.

That seems like lifetimes ago. Funny that I can remember it so clearly.:o:( Geez. Now I feel the need to yell at all those kids on my lawn.

Ditto with my '99 Chevy Cavalier.

Ditto.

I'm figuring out where to tighten the belt to make room in the budget for these higher gas prices. I fill my daughter's 10 gallon tank once per pay period and my own twice usually. My tank takes around 15 gallons if I let it get down really low.

I will usually put in $30 (gets me close to a full tank). I live much closer to work now, so usually I can stretch one tank for 2-3 weeks. I really wish Texas wasn't so car-centric :(

AGDee 02-26-2011 01:56 PM

Yes, my trip to work is 25 miles each way. I am spending $45-50 per tank for my Vue and use about a tank a week, getting 25-26 mpg. This summer, I may drive my daughter's car to work if it gets really bad. Her car gets 36 mpg highway. She's only getting about 20 mpg with her driving patterns, but that's been since winter started, when she is warming up the car for 15-20 minutes before leaving for school. I think she's using more gas warming up the car than actually driving. I can't blame her though. She's driving about 200 miles every two weeks to and from school, her babysitting jobs and all her activities. I fill her tank for her because I used to put those extra miles on my car and used to have to buy an extra tank for my car each pay. This is cheaper than that.

However, I just got my first bill after adding her to my insurance. OUCH. I only have what is required by law on her car and it's $750 every 6 months. It won't cover any accident damage, theft, etc. My car has full broad form collision and is only two years old and I only pay $625 for my car. Before I added her, I was paying $250 for hers.

My ex needs a job, seriously.

knight_shadow 02-26-2011 02:02 PM

I used to drive about 20-30 miles each way. I would spend $30 once or twice a week PLUS tolls. It's so much easier being ~5 miles from work.

My insurance isn't terrible. When I was added to my parents' plan in HS/college, it was high but not AWFUL, but I'd never gotten into any accidents. When I graduated, I broke off of their plan onto my own and it's not too bad for full coverage. It's not $750 though

I hope he gets a job soon so it can ease some of the pressure on you.

sanjiyan69 02-26-2011 02:14 PM

right now I'm going 20 miles round trip in my CRV and I'm getting about 24-25 mpg going AWD. It's 3.39 right now where I am and I really hope that it doesn't go any higher.....

It's Michigan's no fault.. it's insane.

AGDee 04-01-2011 11:09 PM

Ok, today I paid $3.60 a gallon and had waited until I was almost out of gas so I paid $61.38 to fill my tank. That was the cheapest station I could find too. Most were 7- 9 cents more! I'm dyin' here.

Nice, El Paso always has the highest prices in the state so I think I paid $3.85 for the 91 grade. Normally it cost about $70ish for a fill up but my last two cost me over $80. Try having to pay that every 4-5 days :(

aephi alum 04-02-2011 12:51 AM

UGHHHHH.

I had to go to a meeting up at my synagogue last night. I got into town early, and realized that I had less than 1/8 tank of gas (I -never- let it get below 1/4). I would have made it home ok, but since I was early, I decided to fill up at the nearby gas station.

BIG MISTAKE. $4.399/gal for premium. I think they were getting $4.20something for regular, but the Princess only drinks Veuve Clicquot and gets very unhappy when given Korbel. Between the jacked-up prices and the fact that I had to fill up from < 1/8 tank instead of 1/4 as usual, I dropped over $50 on gas for the Princess for the first time since I've had her.

So I got to the synagogue (still early) and had a little chat with the office admin. She told me that, for whatever reason, the gas stations around the synagogue do inflate their prices enormously (they are in the middle of several well-heeled towns), and that she will stop there only if she's running on fumes, and even then she'll put $4 in (which is less than a gallon) and then go home and fuel up.

I've seen an image going around the 'net that features a doctored gas station price sign: Regular = ARM, Midgrade = LEG, Premium = NUT. I think the only reason I'm in one piece is that I don't actually have nuts.........
