I don't care about that thing not hitting New York. I really wish it hit Lala instead.

DSTCHAOS 10-30-2006 06:57 PM

I wish LaLa had hit Buckwild. Buckwild is a phony.

I like Flava Flav. He's musically talented and a funny guy. He's not even ugly to me--not FINE but not ugly b/c I've seen much worse. Not someone I'd date but he probably has a genuine heart and a swagger--and it looks like he has good hygiene even if his face is greasy sometimes.

If people don't like his grown ass acting the way he does or they think he's a Sambo (which is funny b/c that's like telling black comedians that they are coons whereas white comedians can do the same type of comedy and be called comedic geniuses) then DON'T WATCH THE SHOW. :)

jojapeach 10-30-2006 07:05 PM

^^^ Flav gets his swagger on in a hot pink tuxedo with extremely long tails and a top hat to boot. If that's not some straight coonery....

I see what you're saying about him being a decent guy because I can appreciate the type of love he wants to give to someone, and I can dig his persona when he's laidback. That still doesn't dismiss him being who he is.

A lot of black comedians aren't seen by a widespread national audience on a weekly basis as Flav was seen on VH1 three times on Sundays and innumerable reruns through the week. They all might be cooning, but Flav showcased women calling each other b****es every week just to be on TV. It's a travesty to watch, but it's our guilty pleasure. I can still be observant and honest while indulging in my guilty pleasure. I observed that Flav looks like Sambo. Just look 4 posts up.

Honeykiss1974 10-30-2006 07:13 PM

I don't watch this show on a regular specifically for the fact that it is so popular based on played out stereotypes.... of Flav (i.e. sambo) and of black women (ie. loud, ready to fight, ghetto, money-hungry). Shoot, even Dave Chappelle had enough sense to realize that he'd gone past comedic effect into bafoonery. If they can pacify people with show into thinking that is just "comedy", goodness knows what is next. :( And this is not only national TV, but VH1's highest rated show?!?

And yes, I won't be tuning into whatever how mess of a show is next either - except for maybe the first episode so I can see with my own eyes the travesty. lol

So? He's doing his thing. Does it automatically make a black person a coon or a sambo just because they are doing something against the grain or something that you deem ignorant? If so, then you're conforming to white folks' labels.

Why can't Flav just be an eccentric, old ass man who plays up some of the more outlandish parts of his personality to make that paper? He's certainly not the only one, black or white.

I don't find Dave Chappelle funny except for his Rick James, Charlie Murphy, and Prince skits.

I think folks should create a "comedy criteria" so that comics of all races can adhere to it. It's certainly unfair to only hold black comics to the standard, even if they seem to be playing up stereotypes of black men and women. Italian mobster movies play up stereotypes too which is one reason why they're so popular, just like Flava of Love is. :)

Buckwild looks like Joey Jerimiah from Degrassi High.

At least Nibblez doesn't look as dirty... as she usually does.

lil_sunshine 10-30-2006 07:57 PM

The reunion show was TRASH!!!!! I'm upset that:

1. They didn't show Flav meeting Deelishis's daughter Jasmine. She was a cutie pie on the previews,
2. Beatuful opened her cold sore having mouth to down Krazy and her opportunistic motives, knowing good and dayum well she was an oportunist herself. I'm still baffled that nobody on the cast knew she was an extra in "Roll Bounce" looking to get her face out there to get cast in more movies. If that ain't the pot calling the kettle black, I dunno what is.....

I wish Bootz woulda laid New York's tranny azz out on the floor. After all the BS she talked about some of the rest of the girls- especially about Deelishis's mother- and Flav's kids, she shoulda got it! Plain and simple.....

Don't sleep. If I can find one, I'll post one. When I was teaching I used to show a documentary entitled, "Small Steps, Big Strides." It was the history of blacks in entertainment beginning with white folks "portraying" black folks in black face to Denzel Washington. It is excellent. I wonder how Flav would feel if he actually sat down to watch it. Would her have any shame? Probably not. He hasn't had his "Dave Chapelle Moment" yet.

Sorry for the HIJACK!

What grade or level were you teaching? Did the students catch on? Were they affected?

So as long as people take the "black" out of coon and use it to refer to people of all races who do what he does, I'm cool.

I was teaching 10th grade African American Literature. There was a unit in ou text book entitled, "Blacks in Entertainment". We began by watching the documentary and studied the history from "Birth of a Nation" to "Glory". Trust me, they got it. They were required to do an oral presentation in which they selected one person/group from a list of entertainers. The catch was that the list did not include current performers such as Halle Berry or Denzel Washington. They had to choose from a list that included Oscar Micheaux, The Nicholas Brothers, Freddie Washington, Dorothy Dandridge, Harry Belafonte, Nina Mae Mckinney, Hattie McDaniel, etc...

They learned a lot and enjoyed it as well. I have to say that was my favorite unit.

I see your point here. I'll take to being enlightened by someone who doesn't see the hilarity of pre-"Chappelle Show" Dave. ;) Either way, Flav is Flav is a coon is a buffoon is Flav.

I have to say I love you for that unit! "Birth of a Nation", too? Wow...

They couldn't even mention 50 Cent... I could almost hear a child saying, "Come on, Ms. AKADIVA12! 50 revolutionized rap! He got shot 9 times! He made money out of being a victim! Who else could do that???"

Honestly, I could care less what other people do. They don't have the same issues that we do. Jim Carey is a buffoon to the tenth power, but somehow his buffonery doesn't have the same effect. White people aren't viewed collectively as blacks are.

Unfortunately when people utilize the term "coon", they're not referring to anyone else, just black folks. Is it fair? Not really. But it is what it is.

Well, honestly, some blacks would define your nappy red twistouts as an eccentric form of blackness, therefore "coonery," and see you as conforming to white folks' notions of blackness. ;)

I LOVE NY's mom. She is a mess for sure but she is 100% right. She is the only parent that came on the show and told the truth, which is "No, it is not a thrill nor a delight to have your daughter pimp herself out on tv with a roach." I can't see how NY would still have affection for him after his interactions with her mom. Honestly, if my mom came at my man acting a fool, then she and I would have a problem. However, if my man couldn't control himself and started disrespecting her in turn, then he and I would have a problem too. How dare you!

Delicious and Bootz...love ya both. While I really wanted you to whoop NY's azz, I also really want for you to learn to carry and articulate yourselves like ladies rather than hoodrats who have never been anywhere before.

thank you. new york about bootz: "I had her back against the wall". bootz took that literally instead of figuratively and was ready to fight. they all looked like idiots.

Did anyone listen to the Steve Harvey show this morning?
He had Jigga & Flav on...

GET THIS!!!.... Flav said that Deelish has called it quits bc she found out that he has another kid on the way. He did confirm that he has impregnated some chic in Vegas and all of this took place during their 4 month hiatus. He said that the 4 months was a bit much 4 him (whateva, he has been buck all along). I guess that explains why it seemed that Deelish wasnt really feelin him on the reunion show.

On another note, Flav BEGGED Jigga to produce a record for him on the Steve Harvey show this morning. Jiggaz response....insects:o

So the long kiss was a staged one. It didn't look real to me.

I hate myself for wondering this: Is Flav not wrapping it up, did the condom break, or are women saving used condoms and trying to trap him?

I listened to that same interview and Flav specifically said that Delicious said she is with him no matter what (paraphrase).

And I also thought he said the woman was impregnated between FOL 1 and FOL 2.

AKA2D '91 10-31-2006 12:37 PM

I'm sure the reunion show was taped before the news broke about the baby on the way.

I think all of it is staged. There were a few times (on FOL) when it seemed like the girls were reading from cue cards or tv prompters.

Yes he did say that Deelish said that "she would continue to support him" regardless of the situation. I see that the net is suggesting several different stories from his i-view with Steve and Tom Joyner. At any rate, I dont no what if any of it is concrete and then to, what parts are staged for ratings etc. He did say that he kept Sumthin on the show for the ratings bc he wanted to add more humor to the show and that we all knew that he had no physical attraction to her. One things for sure...I cant understand y we are still not using condoms in this day and age....

Sheer stupidity and irreverence for this thing called life. I'm not risking my life for unprotected sex, and I hope that Flav (or anyone else) isn't doing that. If a condom breaks, you might as well hear the needle scratch all the way across the record because everything should come to a stop.
