Flipping your collar up used to be associated with ultra preppy looks found in the Northeast. I've seen some of my uncles pictures from his fraternity days in the 80s at SMU and there is a lot of the tennis and lawn club, sweater with the flipped collar Polo underneath look going on.

And I'm glad to read all 3 posts saying popping the collar is really not the thing (despite that LSU article). It's soooooo 80s (and sure, I did it), but I just saw a guy in the grocery store the other day with his collar flipped and thought it just looked silly. Polo shirt, flat collar, much better. Especially on grown men. |
