Here's a Bama Update:

I just returned from the 1st presentation meeting which was put on by Alpha Phi. The other 2, Delta Gamma and Alpha Xi Delta, will present this Wednesday and the following Monday, though I'm not sure which will be on which night. Keep in mind that all of these organizations would be a recolonization.

FYI - There will be 1 selected to colonize this fall, then 1 more will invited to re/colonize in 2010.

Thanks for the update, Zillini!
Hmmm...I thought that in the end, 2 groups total would be invited, not 3.

You may have heard that from me AncorAlumna because that's what I had been told by our former Greek Advisor over a year ago, maybe even 2. I guess things changed. I should know by now that nothing is ever certain until it's officially announced. :)

That worried me even more. I'm worried about the SDT chapter there. *sigh*

At least the GPhiB chapter is doing a lot better!

Alabama colonization

Delta Gamma colonized at Vanderbilt seven or so years ago when my daughter rushed. While Vandy is not quite as competetive as Bama, how have the DGs done at Vandy since first colonizing? Are they up and running at full speed and making quota? The houses there are for formal occasions and meetings and house only the officers and a few others perhaps, but they are all in the "Greek row" area. I do believe the DGs now have a house, but not on the same streets as the others. I thought perhaps the situation there might echo what might happen at Alabama. Also, Gamma Phi Beta went off camus a few years earlier; I don't know just when or why.

Delta Gamma is presenting next Monday, the 11th, not this week.

Yes, DG is presenting next Monday, not this Thursday.

As far as I know, Panhellenic will invite just one of the three groups to come on this fall. I believe a new set of presentations will be made for the sorority coming on in the fall of 2010. Ultimately, yes, there will be two new sororities.

Whichever sorority comes on campus this fall will have a 2-year lease on the SDT house. After that, ground will be broken on new houses for sororities -- not necessarily just for the two new ones. If XYZ decides they want to build a new house, then colony A could opt to lease or buy XYZ's house.

Of the three presenting, one will be selected to colonize for fall 08 and one for fall 10. These are the only presentations that will be given. No one will re-present for the fall 10 colonization. So basically the chapters will vote on which organization is ready to jump in right now and colonize and which org. will be ready in a couple of years. Only one of the sororities presenting will not be selected, most likely because the UA chapters do not feel they will be able to succeed at UA now or with a few years of preparations.

That is the smartest way to do it. Good job, Bama!

Thanks for clarifying that!

Thank you Bamagirl! I will edit my previous posts to be accurate.

Man, I've been giving out bad info all over the place. My sincerest apologies to everyone and I've corrected my posts. It wasn't intentional. I'd been told one thing only to find out things had changed and my info was outdated. Guess I should stop talking until I'm absolutely sure of the facts.:)

i hope you don't stop sharing info. with us! i don't know what it is, but it seems to me that sometimes information desimination from panhellenic offices is not high on their priority list and they don't do the best job of keeping people informed.
