Alright I will. Anyways. Everyone wants a playoff silly. But the reason why there is no playoffs is greed from the schools. More money from bowl games. Oh, and because schools like Alabama keeps paying their players. har har har. Hey seriously though. Connie the SEC is tough. There are alot of SEC fans that think that USC won't make it past 2 games if they were in the SEC. What do you think? |
I think USC deserves to be #1 until they loose, unless they play cupcake teams or something on their next schedule. (I did think they were gonna loose by now, though, having lost their offense coordinator - shows you what I know right?)
I think any NCAA dev 1 A team could beat any NCAA dev 1 A team on any given day. (I learned that being an ALABAMA fan) I think it is rediculous when people say to the SEC fans that all conferences knock eachother down the rankings within the conference, because the SEC usually has more top 20 teams then all of the other conferences. (did that make sense? any way you know what I mean) I think USC would have to change their practice drastically to play 2 or 3 SEC teams and win all three. And I don't mean Mississippi State or Vanderbilt - I mean LSU - Auburn - Tenn or whatever. (even when "the SEC is down") Going back to playoffs . . . rumor had it that there was actually some discussion of a playoff in a few years - incorporating the bowl games into a playoff situation. Anyone else hear that? Or do I need to read back and maybe I read it here on this thread. If you could organize a playoff system for Div 1 football how would you do it? Me, I would do the # 1s in the conferences and break it down from there. And, if you arent in a conference then boo hoo for you - yea this means you, independent teams. OK well Alabama is about to Kick off agains Miss St. ROLL tide. |

/\ Just kidding he didnt say that (that I know of) I just don't mind a great college football player, living at least as well as the other students, that are sitting in the seats watching the game. |
Nebraskans for the Lynching of Callahan.
|
i heard way back that the reason why they dont do playoffs is because they didnt want the teams to play 15+ games. just imagine how big the brackets will be. who knows........
|
Division 1 AA has playoffs - Division 1 AAA has playoffs - Division 2 has playoffs
NCAA basketball has playoffs NCAA baseball has playoffs NCAA (insert sport here) has playoffs EXCEPT Divison 1 A EXPLAIN THAT TOO ME. Don't say money - there is money in playoffs - don't say that the players cant do it cause of what i put above - WWWWHHHHHYYYYYYY? |
It annoys me when people bring up USC's strength of schedule.
All our non conference games are scheduled against Div 1 teams-- unlike other conferences who proclaim to be harder than ours but who regularly schedule 1AA teams for their non conference games. Kudos to Arkansas for agreeing to start our home and home at USC and to UT and OSU for their non conference game this year. THIS is what makes College Football exciting and separates the best from the rest... Not teams who play Lousiana Monroe and Louisiana Lafayette. /rant and thank you ConnieBama for the "USC deserves to be #1 until they lose." That is true. 'Course, I am biased. ;) |

Here is another article for you. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9913303/ "USC's a dynasty — get over it. Deep South fans ridiculous to think their teams could challenge Trojans. John Wooden is commonly referred to as the "Wizard of Westwood," so USC coach Pete Carroll should now be called the "Wizard of Watts." Most fans that call my radio show from the Deep South have no respect for the Pac-10 Conference and believe Southern California would lose several games if they played in the SEC. Let me remind every fan that doesn't stay up past 10 p.m. on the East coast that if USC had a chance to play Florida this season they would win by 40 points. If they had to go to Alabama and play the Crimson Tide, they would be up by 30 at the half. Imagine the beating that Tennessee would take if the Trojans hosted the Volunteers at the Coliseum. You get my point. We are witnessing a college dynasty and should applaud Carroll and his staff for looking more like an NFL team than a squad that practices on campus. Reggie Bush is the best college running back since Marshall Faulk, and LenDale White looks like he can run with as much power as Jerome Bettis did at Notre Dame." ANYWAYS. These are some teams that USC has scheduled since 2000- Notre Dame (everywhere), Colorado, Auburn, Arkansas, Penn State, Purdue, Virginia Tech, Kansas St, BYU, Hawaii. Keep in mind that most of those were away games. So no, USC does not schedule cupcakes nor will they ever. Their programs as with the majority of the Pac 10 has cajones. Hawaii is not a cupcake either. Just ask your team what happened to them in 2003. While USC shedules quality opponents teams from the SEC are scheduling - North Texas, Appalachian State, La Monroe, Troy St, Florida Atlantic (you'd think they were in the SEC the way they get whored around), UTAH St, MIddle Tennesee State. Oh, all at home mind you. Impressive. very impressive. Let me ask you this. Do you know what these numbers are? 117-34. That is USC's score vs the SEC the past 3 games. One game was actually a good one. 24-17. Another was 23-0. And the last one was 70-17. Judging by that, I don't think USC needs to change the way it practices against the SEC. Btw. Alabama beat Arkansas this year 24-13. That is really impressive. USC scored 28 points in 32 seconds vs the same exact team. |

MONEY MONEY MONEY. BOWLS BOWLS BOWLS. SPONSERS SPONSERS SPONSERS There is money in playoffs? Sure maybe. But no way near as much as with Bowls Bowls Bowls. A team that wins a bcs game gets 10+ million. A team that wins PoDunk bowl gets 500,000. University Presidents don't want playoffs because of that very reason. Bowls bring big money. More money means more money to spend on players for programs like Alabama. har har har. You probably hate me. But I lovvvvve you so much. MUAH |

Also, again spare me with the "we beat them like this and you beat them like that" you know that every game is played differently and you can't judge the "way" a game is going to go by that. That is why I HATE the "voting" thing with NCAA football. A WIN IS A WIN - Arkansas could have been having a good day the day we played them etc. (Alabama beat Tenn, and Tenn beat LSU so does that mean we are going to beat LSU - Not that simple) I think that, it doesnt matter what I think. Alabama should be # 3 this week. (unless the "voters" don't think we "belong" @ #3) I am more worried about LSU then USC. I personally wouldnt put Alabama up agains USC RIGHT NOW. Our offensive line is weak. However your offense wouldnt look so great against an Alabama or Auburn Defense. <check the stats USC is the Number 1 offense in the country and that is earned not voted on. Alabama is the #2 defense in the country and "thank God" that is earned and not voted on. I have no idea how USC would do in the SEC. I guess yall would do pretty good this year - not because "the SEC is Down this year" but because USC is good. I think that with the system the way it is right now every team that goes undefeated (with any kind of schedule) should be screaming, spitting angry that they don't GET A CHANCE at the championship. And LSU can say that they are NATIONAL CHAMPS 2002. And, AUBURN should be able to say that they are NATIONAL CHAMPS 2004. Just because some schmo voter in Wyoming or where ever thinks that USC could beat Auburn (or whoever) doesn't mean that it would happen. WIN IT ON THE FIELD. One more thing, If, by some small chance, Alabama beats LSU and Auburn, and wins the SEC championship, (I know that is a HUGE if) and USC plays Alabama and wins by 1 point or 30 points, it wouldnt mean that USC is better then the entire SEC it would mean that USC was better then Alabama that day and there fore would EARN their NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. I know, you would think that would be a given and redundant statement. But, mark my words some sports writer would take that win as proof of the accuracy of the voting system. WOW i am sorry for droaning (sp?) on an on. I am really enjoying this conversation. |
9-1 I taste Tostitos baby! |
Cyclones beat K-State 45-17! I didn't even mind watching it when it started raining on me in the second half. :)

And who the hell is this guy thinking that the ACC has better teams than the SEC? I'm sorry, but look at the rankings and you can tell that the SEC outweighs ACC any day. Considering for the majority of the season, 2 of the top 3 teams were SEC, and the one that wasn't was definitely NOT ACC (USC). That's just crazy. |
