As I seem to recall, the White Sox failed to get in the playoffs. Atleast the Cubbies came off with second place in the NL...quite a feat.

Thrillhouse 10-16-2003 08:25 PM

The cubs should still be playing right now, they were the favored team and certainly put themselves in a great position to win the series. I've seen the sox in the playoffs before when the cubs sat but thats nothing unless you win it all or at least make the WS. Being tied for 3rd best at something isn't anything to shout about, imo.

The cubs had an awesome season. That is something to brag about. The giants and the braves can also brag right now - they also had awesome seasons.

The giants and braves wanted much more I imagine.

Hopefully both Chi-town teams make the WS next year, that would be coolt o see.

oh well, 86 wins isn't too shabby. As said earlier, I have seen seasons where the sox were in the playoffs and the cubs weren't. Fact of the matter is, both teams haven't done much in the past 80+ years.

This was the cubs year to make the ws, how do they blow a two game lead and blow it with two superstar pitchers going back to back in games 6 and 7? Thats why I think its so funny.

I am done debating this issue though, I think we can agree to disagree.

This sox-yankee game could be one that is talked 20 years down the road like the ending of the 78 season is still talked about today when the red sox-yankee rivalry is referenced.

Too bad I won't be watching...And I bet the WS ratings are gonna be a lot lower then the ratings seen this past week....

holy crap! what i could do with an extra 2 grand...

have a blast!! i wish my cubbies had made it - i would have paid anything to see that!!

KSigkid 10-17-2003 06:42 AM

I could honestly care less if the ratings suck for the Series...my team is in and I'm happy. All the fairweather Sox fans out there will have to become Marlins fans; I won't have to hear Bostonians who know next to nothing about sports in general trying to tell me why the Yankees suck.

The Sox played a hell of a series, I thought it was over going into the 8th. The Sox are a very good team and had one hell of a season.

This is an interesting situation - unlike 86, the players aren't on the spot here. Everyone is talking about how Grady should have done this, Grady should have done that. The criticism is purely on the manager's shoulders, at least right after gametime. (I think it would be a huge mistake to fire a guy who won 90 games with NO bullpen for 3/4 of the year, but that's just me).

But...GO YANKS.

It's 6 am, I'm tired and a little hungover...but it was worth it.
