I personally don't believe in a heaven or a hell. I believe that people preach fire and brimstone as a method of control. In history Christianity and other forms of religion were used as a way to control government. How else can you keep people from stealing and killing? Tell them that God will punish them and that you will burn in hell. I hear it a lot in churches. We have to bribe and paint a fantasy picture in order for people to give money to the church, give to others and love one another. I think that people should just do good to others and be nice because its the right thing to do; not because they are afraid of what may happen in the after life. I think the reasons why people don't do half the things they really want to do is because they have been preached to as children about rewards and punishments. If I told someone that they could live whatever life they chose and would face no consequences their natural instinct will cause them to go buckwild. But why is it we only do the right thing if we know we get some sort of reward for it? So I said all that to say there is no heaven and hell but people will continue to believe this because this is the only way they feel that justice will be served and that there is a benefit to doing the right thing.
