Maybe a little OT, but since there is some discussion of housing in this thread, does anyone know the status of the SK house at Alabama?

I'm not sure. I just know (via a crimson white article) it was supposed to be done this fall, but got delayed in 2024.

Nothing is currently listed on the Building Bama website (https://buildingbama.ua.edu/) and in early 2024, plans for the house were listed.

Wow, in one day our current colonies and future colonization's were updated.

University of Alabama: Chapter placed on Associate Chapter status. This was a huge mistake to colonize here, we do not have housing. We've struggled from day 1 with membership.

South Dakota School of Mines: Colonized this semester.

SUNY-Oswego: Colony closed due to lack of interest.

Additional Upcoming Expansions

Shenandoah University: Fall 2025
University of Oregon: Spring 2026

Another Theta Tau chapter affiliated with us: Here's the story per their PKT website at SD Mines FSL

"The brothers of Theta Tau Omega Chapter at SDSMT have been pressured year after year to turn into a co-ed organization. The brothers who joined this house joined for the fact that it is an all male chapter the desirable attributes that come with it. We hope to change our letters from Theta Tau to Phi Kappa Tau while keeping all of the same values we have held since 1932. After long hours of debate and discussion the brothers of the Omega Chapter have made the unanimous decision to quit Theta Tau and go forth with joining a new nationals organization Phi Kappa Tau. This organization has goals set around helping students learn to grow and become leaders. They are extremely supportive compared to Theta Tau's national organization and open the opportunity for more scholarship and training opportunities. We aim to hold true to the values that Theta Tau also set for us by continuing to have professional development events, community service events, and a holding a presence on campus. We will continue to be located at the same house at 109 Kansas City St and bring with us all 44 members we currently have".

Who is pressuring them to go coed? The school or their national organization?

National. Theta Tau accepted women membership in 1977. Some chapters still refuse to accept woman. There's been mounting pressure from their HQ for those all-male chapters to go co-ed. I was told there are a few other chapters interested in joining us.

Phi Mu at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign closed after the Fall 2024 semester. They are not listed under "Sororities". Wikipedia has the chapter as Inactive. Fall 2024 membership was 49 members while other PHA chapters had 160+ members.

Looking at the maps, does anyone know why Theta is listed as "non-certified"?

Pi Kappa Alpha will be returning to the university of Connecticut in Fall 2025.

Syracuse Sigma Phi Epsilon closure

This is news from 2/4/24 but I didn't see it listed on last year's thread.

From an alum of the chapter, the chapter self reported a hazing incident that precipitated the closure. Sig Ep National Housing retained ownership of the house but it was leased this past school year by Delta Upsilon.

ADPi is listed as enjoying the same non-certification. Other than an apparent Freedom Of Choice to Not Belong (as allowed by the University itself?) I don't see any other reason listed/mentioned on that information page for their being "non-certified".

It's in the "Chapter House" column: I found this at the bottom of the page.

Chapter House/Facility

Certified: Denotes a property that is owned/leased by a House Corporation that has chosen to participate in the Private Certified Housing program and must comply with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign standards for certification.

Non-Certified: Property is owned/leased by a House Corporation but does not participate in the Private Certified Housing program.

Non-Residential: Property is owned and/or operated by a House Corporation and is used for chapter functions and meetings however the facility does not house residents.

"According to the Wall Street Journal, Alabama’s Sigma Kappa chapter paused its plans for a new, roughly $24.7 million house, according to university documents. The price tag would have set a record for the nation, but a university spokesperson said the project was paused because it had become too pricey due to inflation."

Where do Alabama SK chapter members plan on living/hosting recruitment this year? Have they more recently held equal to other campus chapters in NM numbers?
