I can not believe I just read this whole thread. I must be crazy and with a headache to boot. For what it is worth I think your Greek Life office might have a minimum GPA to participate of a 2.5 to protect potential new members going through recruitment from getting released from every Chapter for not having grades. I KNOW your FRIENDS (girls tell PNM's what they want to hear all the time) told you their Chapter would take you, but most Chapters have a minimum GPA for college students and students coming from High School. The other thing to remember is that a couple of girls do not speak for the entire Chapter not even the Recruitment Chair. If this Chapter does have a minimum GPA and there is an Advisor present I think your chances would be slim to none getting through that requirement IMHO.
I know this is not what you want to hear, but I think if you go through recruitment with a 2.12-2.45 (no one knows what grades you actually will get even though you are counting on a 4.0) will end in major disappointment for you. If I was your friend or mentor I would advise you to get the best grades you can this summer and get the best grades you can get in the Fall. Hopefully your campus does spring informal and you can try to get into a sorority that way. I don't know if you are for real or not, but good luck to you. You have a long road ahead of you. |
the sorority doesnt care about your gpa as long as you have met the minimum. and at my school you have to get a letter from the greek life office approving that you can rush before you even get to do that. and i know the girls werent just telling me that. for a fact. you guys wouldnt know. also, im rooming in a house with some of them next semester.
|
^^^Note: a letter saying that you can rush despite a bad GPA, doesn't = a guarantee of a bid.
Your Greek Life Office can't tell you NOT to rush, but they can't tell the sororities to BID you with said GPA. Edit: and "if you know for a fact that your friend's chapter is going to give you a bid", why are you asking for advice? |

and if i had a 2.5 i could rush? i just need 9 credits this summer. update: i contacted the lady in charge or the summer college and asked her about the credit limit and everything. this is what she said: "You will need to get approval from your department chairperson/advisor to take over 7 credits in a six week session. Thanks" so next stop=my advisor. do you guys think hell let me? |

Anyone I've ever known to get approved for an overload on credits has been an excellent student all through college, so the advisor had no qualms about letting them go over the max number of hours (I'm talking above a 3.6.) If you're just now getting back on your feet academically, he may be hesitant to approve your overload for fear that you'll be overwhelmed and do REALLY BADLY. The worst thing would be for you to get approved to take this higher number of courses, do poorly and put yourself in a worse position than you're already in. |

However, WE ARE NOT HIM/HER! We can't tell you what HE/SHE would do...only what we would do. And if I were the adviser for a chapter on your campus, you would be released the first day with this GPA. That may be mean but maintaining our standards and not having to deal with you for 3 lackluster semesters in a row before we could expel you is just not how I'd want to spent my time and energy. |

Note: it's not YOUR sorority if you haven't received a bid. It's theirs. If you refer to it as "your sorority" or "our sorority" in front of them, they'll probably get creeped. Don't get me wrong, I had friends who spent lots of time aound me and my sisters. But Sigma is (and was) OURS and not my friend's.

but i absolutely without a doubt could handle the load, in fact if i got in, my gpa would go up!
