I'm also puzzled as to why people on these message boards continue getting in to the same tired arguments with each other over race. Let's face it...there are a few things that are generally going to stay consistent:
1. whites are always going to gripe and complain about not being able to call us the "n" word even though some blacks use it as a slang term. for whatever reason they are really upset that they can't call us that word without facing repercussions. go figure.
2. whites are always going to feel that affirmative action is unfair and that it is reverse racism. no matter how many times people try to demonstrate the fact that AA is needed in the first place because of racism, whites will stubbornly refuse to acknowledge this. no matter how many times it is pointed out that blacks are not the only group to benefit from AA whites will refuse to acknowledge this. no matter how many times it is proven that because someone benefits from AA it does not mean they are under qualified, whites are going to refuse to acknowledge this. Give it up.
3. whites are going to continue to gripe that we get to celebrate black history month, completely ignoring the fact that every other month focuses on the accomplishments and historical milestones of whites and other non black races.
4. whites are going to continue to act as though blacks are overly sensitive about race relations.
5. blacks and whites are never going to see eye to eye on racial matters. in fact many whites are going to use Obama's presidency as "proof" that racism no longer exists. again, there's no need to argue. you aren't going to change their minds.

As controversial as my post may be, it needs to be said because there are over two hundred posts in this thread and most of them demonstrate what I am talking about. I used to think that one way of combating racism in society was dialogue between the races. Unfortunately I have learned that most whites in general are going to turn a deaf ear or try to turn things around to show" reverse" racism. To that end...there's just no point anymore.

No offense, but your post isn't all that "controversial." It's been said many times in many ways by many people on GC.

Sometimes there are just some threads to be avoided...or some threads where you need a bottle of aspirin (or alcohol) to get through them.

The fact that you are lumping all whites together in this post sort of undermines any gumption your points would have carried had you simply inserted the word "some" or even "most" if that is your opinion. Certainly not all whites fall into the categories you just described. There are definitely racist whites, just as there are some blacks who do fit the societal stereotypes that racists would apply to the population as a whole--but those few shouldn't be allowed to misrepresent the entire group.

OMG.

So much controversy here I can't take it.

No offense? Why would that be offensive? When I say controversial, I mean in the sense that some of you like to blow my posts out of proportion even if it HAS been said numerous times already. But despite the fact that it has been said numerous times makes it puzzling that people still do it.

It goes without saying that not all whites fit into that category. I don't always feel the need to make sure that I type "some" or "most." If a white person reads this and doesn't fall into this category, then they know that. However, I rarely encounter whites who don't fall into these categories. That's why I don't bother getting into dialogues about it anymore. For instance, I'm not even concerned about what recently happened with the Republican party and Facebook. That stuff is boring and cliche. No need to get up in arms about it. That crap is played out. I chuckle now when I encounter whites and other non black individuals who like to call us monkeys and the "n" word and "colored." I encourage people to stop giving them attention when they do it. It is pretty much a given that most of the non black members of the Republican party who are in high positions feel that way about blacks. That one of them would be encouraging racist diatribe by some random, PWT is not surprising. Yawn.

Why do the two things have to be mutually exclusive?

Anywhooooooo, this is a troll thread now and she replied to a troll. LOL.

AND? My reply was also directed at certain other posters whose posts are equally racist. It is pretty obvious when someone has the moniker "angrywhiteman" and only has ONE post, that they are a troll. Duh. What exactly is your point?

And I think it's funny. You came in here all after the fact with long overstating-the-obvious posts.

This from the RM mod? oh god. lol.

ANd in response to DeepImpact

I don't know what you are talking about facebook thing with the republican party. But you seem to be saying all conservatives are racist regardless of race.

It's actually not a given, not even close...and I can speak to that through actual experience (i.e. knowing people in the party, and being close to people who have worked for party leaders).

But, I guess it wouldn't be Greekchat if people weren't making broad, unfair statements about one of the political parties.

ETA: When you make statements like that, you're no better than the Rush Limbaugh's of the world who seek to demonize the other party. Saying that the Republican leadership is a bunch of racists is at best, unfair.

I was more baffled by her use of "PWT."

That reference annoys me, in general, but I thinks it's better for whites to use it than for nonwhites. It's another one of those sayings that should remain intraracial.

Well yeah, there's that too. The comment as a whole is just baffling.

The song actually goes "PYT" - Pretty YOUNG thang.

PWT stands for Poor White Trash.
