$1.70 at the WaWa. :(
I was happy at 1.45. What gives NOW?

txdiva 01-21-2009 06:35 PM

$1.75!!!

ree-Xi 01-21-2009 07:08 PM

The oil manufacturers purposely decreased production so that there was more demand. The higher the demand, the more they charge.

em_adpi 01-23-2009 11:23 PM

I just paid $1.64. Bet that's gone soon.

epchick 01-23-2009 11:26 PM

I really hope Sam's is cheaper, but I just saw the Chevron down the street is at $1.89

Because they is no room to store all the gas they are making, when the demand for gas was really high they were selling it as fast as they could produce it. Also, it doesn't really make a difference, they may be making more money per gallon, but they aren't producing as many gallons, so they really aren't making all that much more money, but if they can't sell the gas then they are having to pay to store, therefore losing money. No one likes losing money.

I know someone who is pretty high up with a huge international oil company and he said when oil hits below $35 a barrel, then they are no longer working for profit and will starting shutting operations down.

Big difference between $70 a barrel and $35 a barrel. None of those oil companies are hurting for profits. In recent years, many have reported record earnings, far surpassing expected profits.

And we have heard from almost every industry having to raise their prices to cover increased gas costs (airlines, food & agriculture, retail, manufacturing etc.). It trickles down, and people need to decide whether to pay for gas to get them to work, and necessities of life.

did you not take economics?

epchick 05-27-2009 09:41 PM

anyone else's gas prices going up? Its ridiculous how much they've gone up within the past 2-3 weeks. Gas prices were around $1.70-$1.80 and now they are $2.50.

ThetaDancer 05-27-2009 10:18 PM

Same here :(

nate2512 05-27-2009 11:47 PM

sad as it may be, i might actually be glad gas is going back up, our universities have been cutting major budgets cause we aren't getting any oil royalties, i have a feeling this is going to reflect the end of the recession in the southern gulf states if these trends keep up.

RU OX Alum 05-28-2009 03:50 AM

^^ I hope so.

The economy is so linked together that the slightest change seems in one area to affect all other parts.

Hopefully, people will be more responsible from now on.

nate2512 05-28-2009 11:04 PM

you know we'll be in the same boat when gas eases back up in 3.00 range, people are going to be bitching like hell cause gas is so high, it's a double edge sword, pick your side, id rather pay the little bit extra for gas because it's beneficial in the long run, and maybe this recession will be good for america and make people pay attention to the world around them.

Yeeeeeeeah. That's actually not what happens at all.

We don't "charge" anything. We import 75% of our fuel. Perhaps investigate how oil and gas prices are generated.

VandalSquirrel 05-29-2009 12:14 AM

Hasn't gas always gone up during the summer due to travel season and what not? Maybe I'm imagining things, but I recall gas going up around Memorial Day, and going back down after Labor Day.

Yes, and they say, in Michigan, it's due to 1) demand going up and 2) requiring a different blend in the summer to meet emissions standards.

texas*princess 05-29-2009 12:02 PM

this sucks.

I think I'm OK with a max of $2.50/gal, but anything more than that is ludicrous :(

Yesterday I paid around $2.80ish for regular unleaded

I agree. Although, I would think more than $2.00 is high, if it were locked in (not that this could be done) at $2.50, I wouldn't complain.

Thought this might be of some interest to some. It was to me...

Oil Is Plentiful, Demand Weak. Why Are Gas Prices Going Up?
By VIVIENNE WALT / PARIS Vivienne Walt / Paris – Fri May 29, 7:05 am ET

Storage tankers across the globe may be brimming with oil that no one is buying because of the global economic downturn, but the traditional laws of supply and demand don't always apply to oil prices. Drivers have faced rising prices at the gas pump in recent months, as investors and oil-producing countries hoard supplies in anticipation of a global economic recovery later this year.

AGDee 05-29-2009 01:50 PM

I think I paid $2.64 the other day, on Memorial Day, actually and I figured it was high because of the holiday, but I believe it has gone up since then.

ETA: I read that yahoo article too, and thought of GC as I read it!

VandalSquirrel 05-29-2009 07:47 PM

Dear Fuel companies:

You should offer a deal where we can buy gas at $x.xx per gallon on a decling blanace type card, so we can "lock in" a price and we'd always buy from you and you'd have the money regardless. Say you buy 100 gallons at $2.00 a gallon, you'd have $200 sold and we'd get 100 gallons. Think how you'd promote brand loyalty and help people who want to take road trips, commute, or are moving as they can prepay for fuel and stick to a budget. Colleges and Universities offer this and it has yet to be overly problematic.

If you see this idea and would like to market it, PM me so I don't come and sue you later.

Keep on truckin',

VandalSquirrel

nate2512 05-29-2009 07:55 PM

Calm down people, so far, your fill up has changed at most $10 per tank of gas, that's not that huge of a deal.

Heck yeah $10 per fill-up is a big deal....especially when you don't have a job.

ComradesTrue 01-09-2011 11:13 PM

I paid $2.98 yesterday. Anyone dealing with prices over $3.00? Somehow I just didn't notice it soaring back up this time. Not sure how that happened!

$50 to fill up. Boo.

Kappamd 01-09-2011 11:31 PM

It was 3.19 here for a while. Dipped back down to about 3.05 in the last week. Thank god I drive a Civic.

nittanygirl 01-10-2011 01:44 AM

$3.15 here. Definitely glad I drive a Corolla that's really good on gas. Yesterday I used a lot more than usual to get to school which really sucked because now I'm down to just under half a tank again and need to go spend another $20 because I don't like it to get under a quarter of a tank in the cold weather and snow.

Tulip86 01-10-2011 04:31 AM

We pay $8,07 per gallon..
(1,65 euro per liter)

yeah... I'll take the bus

AGDee 01-10-2011 07:09 AM

It's around $3.09 for cash, $3.15 for credit. I think they were afraid to up the prices during the big oil spill so they're doing it now.

honeychile 01-10-2011 03:49 PM

When I drove out to Chicago for Christmas week, I was shocked to see that EVERY gas station in Ohio had their regular gas at $2.99 or lower; the minute you crossed a state border (Indiana, West VIrginia, Illinois, or Pennsylvania), the least expensive was $3.09. How does Ohio do it?

Kappamd 01-10-2011 04:15 PM

^^^They don't. I haven't seen gas under 3 in a few weeks.

Ohio's state tax on gas used to be less than Michigan's, so it was defintiely cheaper. I don't know if that's still true or not though.

Kappamd 01-10-2011 05:22 PM

It may be cheaper, but marginally. The tax difference is something like 6 or 7 cents a gallon.

ComradesTrue 02-24-2011 08:40 PM

This past weekend our area was still under $3.00 Tuesday it was 3.06. This morning was $3.10 and this afternoon I paid $3.29 at that same station.

I recognize, and am grateful, that our region of the country is not as expensive as others. But seriously? Almost 20 cents in just a few hours?

sceniczip 02-24-2011 08:49 PM

Yesterday it was $3.29, today it was $3.39. I was grumbling when I paid $3.14 this past weekend! I'm sure glad I did it now!

PeppyGPhiB 02-24-2011 09:41 PM

We've been well above the $3 mark in the Seattle suburbs for quite a while.

knight_shadow 02-24-2011 09:42 PM

I think the last station I saw was at $3.09. It's been hovering around $3 for a bit, so I didn't really flinch when I saw that.

twinkle555 02-24-2011 09:55 PM

Highest Ive seen here in Tampa is $3.19 :(

That's about where we are. Until Libya stabilizes, it's just going to go up and up. Whether you believe in global warming or not, THIS is a great reason to be moving toward alternative fuels. We need to break free from dependence on the Middle East.
