Since I only listen to CDs in the car, I'm still on the I Am... CD. Some of the songs I heard so far are ok, but the Ava Maria has me .

I hope this is not the year of the great artists with the bad CDs (did you hear that Usher?). Thank God Kanye is out on Monday. :D

That's what it looks like right now. First Janet, then Mariah, Usher, now Beyonce. I am not impressed. I'm really crossing my fingers for Kanye.

jitterbug13 11-18-2008 09:37 PM

Didn't hear Janet's CD. To me, Mariah's album wasn't bad, but not as good as Emancipation. Most of Usher's album was bad, except for about four songs.

Please Music God, let Kanye's album be the bomb. :)

You have to get the deluxe edition (16 tracks) to get the entire CD, so for those people who picked up the regular edition (11 tracks), they will be pissed off. "I Am" (disc 1) was a bold move, but it fell flat. I was bored with it halfway through. "Sasha Fierce" (disc 2) was GARBAGE!!! Most of it sounded like a bunch of recycled tracks. Beyonce has done so much better than this. This is a complete letdown!

Favorites:
If I Were a Boy
Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)
Smash Into You
Scared of Lonely
Disappear

Really? Is it only me, but does Put a Ring on It remind you of Upgrade You?

It reminded me of Get Me Bodied, but Video Phone sounded a lot like Upgrade U.

Janet- Trust me, you didn't miss much!
Mariah- was good, but Emancipation was much better
Usher- I thought it was ok, but not as good as Confessions

I heard that Kanye will sing more than rap on this CD. If it's true, then I'm scared!

I didn't buy Beyonce's album after hearing a little sample from my friends. I expected her to bring it this album, with more ballads and "real music." I'm sick of the pop sound. C'mon B, you're older and married now. Sing like it. Do you all agree?

Oh, I can't stop listening to Sweetest Love by Robin Thicke! I love that song.

100%. I really want her to do a mature album, more in the vain of MJB. Beyonce isn't evolving musically.

jitterbug13 11-19-2008 12:28 PM

I am now listening to the Sasha CD. Some of the songs on this one and the I Am CD sound like leftover Rhianna songs. The CDs are OK, but I don't see myself bumping them like BDay or Dangerously In Love.

If Kanye falls flat on his face with this one, his next album will be out in the summer (hopefully it will be the Get A Job album).

YES!!! I think B is trying to continue to appeal to that single/teeny crowd. The fact is, if she takes a risk and tries to create songs "we" will enjoy, that may be a challenge for her and she's not comfortable with that. DIL had her on the right track. She's about shaking that azz, so that's where her music is relatively speaking. LOL Shaking that azz isn't going to always be a priority for some. (HA!)

Maybe it is Get Me Bodied. However, it's something about the lyrics that remind me of Upgrade U. I think it's agreed that it seems recycled.

I'm not really a B fan, but I thought once she left DC, got older, became hitched her music would grow. She needs to take a few lessons from MJB.

I sent similar sentiments in an email yesterday:

Music is about moods. If a CD can catch you at the right time, it's easy to become "addicted" to it. That's why Mary blew up. There are millions more women in despair than happy with love and/or life at any given time, so it's easy to relate. That's why folks thought she had "fallen off" when she got happy with her life and started getting more upbeat. Beyonce might be going through that. I think she tried to satisfy both ends of the spectrum with this double disc. She may want to grow up, but she is still trying to keep the "Single Ladies"/"Upgrade U" crowd. But, I'm not hating on the slow jams because I LOVE Beyonce and I LOVE ballads. She can do no wrong if she gives me an album worth of ballads. I love her voice!

Though I think she's great, I would love for her music to grow up more. I'd hate for her to hit a rut in a few years similar to what Janet is experiencing now. Janet is pretty much REFUSING to grow up in her music and, while I love Janet and thinks she still has it, she is getting too damn old to still be trying to pull off Rhythm Nation. If she comes through with some modern day versions of "Again," "That's the Way Love Goes," and "Anytime, Anyplace," then her and I can roll again! Until then....

--

I agree with Soror 2D. Beyonce needs to step the game up. There's nothing wrong with one or two "popish" songs on an album, but Beyonce needs to keep up with her contemporaries, i.e., the maturing crowd (like us), and leave the trendy song and dance to the Rihannas and Ciaras of the world. There is NOTHING wrong with growing up. I'd rather lose a few fans than turn away from what's true to me.

Velocity_14 11-20-2008 03:43 PM

^^^^^^Speak life!!! LOL

jitterbug13 11-20-2008 05:25 PM

I understand that Beyonce's trying to grow, but also she maybe thinking "if it ain't broke, why fix it". But she can still do the same kind of music and evolve, like Madonna.

And I agree with RD on Janet. If there were more songs like "This Can't Be Good" on her last album and grow with her audience, she might would have have a chance. People don't want to admit it, but Janet was starting to fall off way before Nipplegate. I remember it took a long time for The Velvet Rope to get running.

Just to add... Artists also need to take a break. I know the industry thing is to get it while you can, but it's overkill. For certain people their last albums aren't even cold yet.

AKA2D '91 11-20-2008 10:44 PM

Yeah. B needs to take a BREAK! She's a great entertainer, but can I wonder where she went? For instance, pull a Maxwell on us! :D He has toured and STILL has NOT put out new miusic.

I LOVE JJs "This Can't Be Good!"

B did talk about retiring at 30. She's 27 now, so she probably figures she still got a good three years left in her. But I doubt that she will retire then. The only thing I thing is going to slow her down is little Biggas.

Or they add songs to albums that have been out a year and promote them for another year (did you hear that Rhianna?).

And can someone please tell me why Jaheem is coming out with a greatest hits album next week?

Yeah the adding of songs and releasing the album as a "bonus track album" is ok ONLY if the original album was solid.

I didn't know Jaheem had that many songs to have a greatest hits album, but I said the same thing when Ashanti released one.

FYI: 808 and Heartbreak will be out on Monday. The album will be on MySpace Music tomorrow (Saturday). :D :D

Luda's album is also out on Monday and he will be on SNL tomorrow.

Who is 808 and Heartbreak? The name alone sounds like i need to get it.

I love Eric Benet's cd. Very happy. I have Jennifer Hudson's as well, but I'm still blasting Mary Mary and haven't put anything else in.

Kanye. And unless I'm trippin', I haven't seen the album on Myspace. Every time I visit his page, I keep getting Love Lockdown and a medley of four other songs from other albums. I've been looking for it all weekend. :(

jitterbug13 11-24-2008 11:14 AM

It was suppose to be on there Saturday. I didn't get a chance to check. But it doesn't matter because the album's out today. :D

I concur on all above...especially the bolded.

After listening to half of Kanye's new CD, I'm officially depressed.

txdiva 11-24-2008 09:38 PM

I picked up Kanye's CD today...and I like it!!! It's experimental & different, and that's probably why I like it so much. Aside from "Robocop", the CD's pretty decent. What a bold and artistic move, and he pulled it off very well.

JB13>>Where are u? Your thoughts? :D

jitterbug13 11-25-2008 05:02 PM

^^^^
I like it. It's different that what's on the radio right now and it's good that he decided to go out of the box. But there are times during the CD I want to give him a big hug and tell him it will be OK.

Has anyone heard the new Luda yet?

delph998 11-25-2008 11:57 PM

I like that Eric Benet cd a lot. I still haven't had time to listen to Jennifer Hudson. I have it, but haven't listened.

The new Luda is kinda hot!

txdiva 12-09-2008 07:02 PM

A lot of music came out today:

Common-I'm disappointed with his new CD. For starters, it's too short (38 minutes) and it kept me wanting more. After two excellent CDs (Be & Finding Forever), I expected so much more than this. I applaud him for trying to be different this time around, but it just didn't work.

Brandy-it's ok, not wowed by it, but it was nice to hear from her again

Musiq Soulchild-LOVED IT!!! "Until" has been on repeat since I heard it the first time this morning! As much as I didn't like "Radio" at first, the song grew on me. This CD is excellent from start to finish!

Haven't listened to Avant yet, but I'll get to it sometime this week! :)

unspokenone25 12-09-2008 07:18 PM

Common: I agree with you on the CD. In my opinion all of his CDs (including Electric Circus) have been excellent but this one leaves less to be desired. However, there are a few tracks that I love. It's not a complete loss but as I said earlier, he needs to stay away from Serena and get back to what's real.

Brandy: Heard one track. That was enough for me not to listen anymore.

Musiq Soulchild: Eh. I wasn't impressed with this CD or his last. Sigh.

I know. I'm hard on music.

Listening to the Musiq CD in my car. Not bad so far. I liked the second track. And all day I've had Don't Leave (the song with Mary) in my head.

Will listen to Brandy tomorrow. Glad to see that she's back. :D

Please don't tell me that Common's bad. Never really been a big fan of Avant, so I'll pass. His remake of Sailing that I heard this morning had me .

Will anyone pick up Keyshia and/or Jamie next week?

It's not bad...it's just not his best. It's not what I know him to be capable of.

It's not better than Q-Tip's CD. In my opinion, it's the HipHop album of the year.

Oh. A friend of mines wanted to get Q-Tip's CD. As a matter of fact, I heard that Common and Q-Tip may do an album together.

Listening to Brandy. What I've heard so far is OK.

AND D'ANGELO HAS A SONG OUT ON ITUNES!!!! :D :D

txdiva 12-16-2008 01:54 PM

Keyshia Cole's new CD is ok, no standouts on this one, though.

Anthony Hamilton's new CD is nice. Same as Keyshia's, nothing really stood out, but it was a nice listen.

I'll probably check out Jamie's new one later this week!

Velocity_14 12-16-2008 08:28 PM

I think I'm about to go get Jaimie's because they played a lot of the tracks on the Steve Morning Show the other day and I like what I heard...Keyshia Cole...I don't know...we will see...

txdiva 12-19-2008 07:40 PM

Jamie's CD is ok; I was feeling some of those sexy songs! :D

AKA2D '91 12-21-2008 09:18 PM

I went to purchase A Hamilton's. The guy at CC said they can't keep it on the shelves. I guess that's a good sign. However, unfortunate for me as I could not get a copy.

I purchased: KCole, JFoxx, and Kanye(I know I'm late). I'll listen to those later on in the week.

Ledisi's Christmas CD is a nice.

delph998 01-03-2009 11:26 AM

I went on a music shopping spree: A Hamilton, Jamie Foxx, Keyshia Cole, Musiq, and Beyonce.

I've only to Keyshia Cole and Musiq so far. Musiq's cd is nice. It's not a banger though. Keyshia's cd is okay. Definitely not as good as her last two. This week I'll listening to Jamie and A Hamilton.

MeezDiscreet 01-03-2009 08:32 PM

I really like Musiq's album. It's waaaay better than the last one.
