Welcome, both of you!

Sidenote, I believe my first post in this thread was when I was a collegian. Le sigh.

Unfortunately (not really, quite honestly), I'll be on a cruise during IRD this year.

littlesquirrel 01-07-2012 02:18 PM

Haha yes, as nice as IRD can be, going on a cruise might be a BIT more exciting. Maybe. :)

Hooray for coming to GC and introducing yourself, (belated) welcome to our circle of sisterhood.

I have an idea for philanthropy that is related to both Type I and Type II diabetes, so do PM me if you're interested.

AGDAH914 06-26-2012 02:29 PM

Wow, I cannot believe that I have yet to post in this thread...

Anyway:
Hey everyone, I'm Cassandra and I am at the University of King's College/Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The AGD Chapter there is Alpha Eta and it was the 5th Canadian Chapter installed. I am a Collegiate who Pledged in September 2011 and Initiated in November 2011, I also have the honour of being my Chapter's Website Coordinator.

I joined Alpha Gam for a couple of reasons. The big one was that my mother was part of the Alpha Gam Chapter at the Univeristy of Calgary (Delta Nu for those who are wondering) in Alberta, and my godmother was my mom's AGD sister, bridesmaid and a past President of the Delta Nu Chapter. Due to this, I grew up meeting my mom's sisters and hearing stories about their experiences with Alpha Gam and I wanted to experience that for myself.

My favourite memory of my first year as an AGD was actually my Initiation. My Pledge Class of about twelve, got together with our chapter's Alpha Program Coordinator for breakfast early on the day of Initiation. After eating and walking to the venue in our sweatpants and winter jackets, we started getting changed.

I ended up being one of the first girls to be ready and as I was walking out of the bathroom I hear one of the other girls yell "Holy Heels!"The reason for this? My dress was at least four inches longer than I was tall and I couldn't get it hemmed because it was made of many thin layers so I ended up with shoes that were white pleather with a tall heel and a huge platform on the toe.

I managed to wear them all through Initiation without getting sore feet or landing on my face and the shoes in question are now known throughout the chapter as "Cassandra's Spice World Shoes". It's my favourite memory because that was the day when I realized that I was truly in a place where I belonged...and I won't ever forget the looks of astonishment that I got from my sisters when they saw me wearing those shoes.

Joining Alpha Gam was the best decision I have ever made and I am so proud to call myself a member of the Alpha Eta Chapter. To me, each and every Alpha Gam is my sister, for which I am so thankful for, and I look forward to meeting many more Alpha Gams, and not just those from my Chapter or my mother's Chapter.

AGDLynn 06-26-2012 09:13 PM

AGD Roll Call

I can't believe I haven't posted to this yet either!

My name is Dawn Large Hart
I'm an Epsilon Nu member from the University of Central Oklahoma
My favorite memory is of recruitment. There was the loud mouthed crazy girl that made a scene everywhere she went. I said to myself, if she pledges my house, I'm gonna drop that house.

Anyway bid day came along, and sure enough she pledged my house. Not only did she pledge it, she became the pledge class president. Back in the late 80's when I pledged, we had a full semester of new membership. Anyway, I thought to myself, this is going to be a LONG semester.

Flash forward 12 months, we were the best of friends. We didn't go anywhere without the other one. We even roomed together. She turned out to be a pretty good friend and one of my biggest supporters.

Flash forward 23 years, and she is still my best friend. Has been in my wedding. And held my hand when I was sick. Calls me and at the drop of a hat, is by my side. She is still my biggest supporter and I can't imagine my life without her. AGD is forever. And she is living proof of that!

I was proud to initiate my sister - Epsilon Phi (Texas Woman's University) as an alum. And was even more proud when she became the Zeta Zeta (WPI) Chapter Advisor and received her Arc a couple of years ago.

I'm a proud and loud AGD. Go Alpha Gam or go home! I'm now the alumnae President in Denver, CO and still lovin' the squirrels!!

Loyally

Hey everyone!
My name is Carly. I'm an active member from the Alpha Pi chapter at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan! My favorite memory of AGD would be when I got my sister-daughter, Jackie. During the reveal, we both kept squealing with excitement and other members had to keep us quiet until the reveal ceremony was over. Oops! :D

1) First Name-Chelsea
2) College/University and Chapter-Coe College and Pi Chapter
3) Collegian or Alumnae-Alumnae
4) Why you joined Alpha Gam and/or your fave memory of AGD-I joined as an alumnae initiate on Sunday, May 3rd. I was an alumna of the interest group that formed on campus when I was still a collegian and I remained close to the women including helping with recruitment after my graduation in 2012 and I decided I wanted to pursue AI after Alpha Gamma Delta was selected to recolonize. My favorite memories of Alpha Gamma Delta are International Reunion Day when I found out that IHQ had accepted me for membership and then Sunday when I was initiated and they held the reinstallation of Pi Chapter. I could not imagine finding a more perfect fit for me and I love all my new sisters.

UVASquirrel 11-11-2015 08:45 PM

Hi...been hanging around on these boards for a few months now. Not sure if I ever did the roll call or not. But, anyway, better late than never!!
1.) First Name: Tara
2.) Chapter - Theta Kappa, University of Virginia
3.) Alumnae
4.) Why you joined Alpha Gam? I was part of a local sorority. UVa's system is very different in that there is an Inter Sorority Council that governs things, not a Panhellenic Council. Local chapters must jump through a lot of hoops before the ISC approves them to affiliate with a National Organization. So, we took about a year and a half doing all of that and then invited Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Gamma Delta and Alpha Sigma Alpha to come to present to us. We had been leaning towards Gamma Phi Beta and even called our local group "Phi Beta" because we had a Gamma Phi transfer from UGa who was part of our group. But, their presentation didn't blow us away. It was obvious that they didn't really want to be there. I remember clearly Trisha Barber coming in from AGD and just completely blowing our socks off. We left that presentation all wanting to be Alpha Gams...and so we were installed in February of 1990. Needless to say, going from almost two years as a self-governing local sorority to having to learn all new rules and regs didn't sit well with some folks, so my favorite AGD memory is when International Grand President Laverne Taylor Flannagan came to Charlottesville and sat on the floor of our living room with us eating hot dogs and explaining why it was important that we learn to do things the AGD way. I only got to experience undergrad life as an initiated member for 1 semester before I graduated, but I've been very involved ever since with involvement in alumnae clubs and chapters from Washington DC to Hawaii to Reno, Nevada to Tampa. I'm a convention junkie and can't wait for Orlando next summer...which will be my 5th convention.

AGDee 11-20-2015 12:48 AM

Welcome! I can't wait for Orlando either :) It will be my 8th (I think! Have I actually lost track?)

AGD_Cutie 08-09-2017 08:59 AM

I'm Alex
I am a student at Georgetown College, Theta Upsilon chapter
I joined because the people I spent most my out of class time with were Alpha Gams! On our chapel day we go out and present ourselves to all the sororities in our new colors, I got so excited going out those doors I forgot to stop so everyone could see the colors, I just took off down the stairs right into my now Bigs arms!!

Hi everyone!

I'm Lindsey.
Member of the Delta Xi chapter at Arizona State University.
Collegian,
I joined Alpha Gam because of the genuine conversations I had and because I had multiple signs pointing me to her <3
