From the Gamma Eta chapter website: "In 1954, the only five women who attended Tech were invited by Mrs. Van Leer, the President's wife and an Alpha Xi alumna, to a meeting at the alumna’s home. After leaving the tea party, they were so impressed with the Alpha Xi Delta National Council that they decided to start their own chapter of Alpha Xi Delta. Elizabeth Hearndon approached an alumna and with everyone's help they were granted permission to begin the formation of the chapter on Tech's campus! The Gamma Eta Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta was created on April 24th, 1954 and its members included all five women who had attended the tea. Their names are: Shirley Clements Mewborn Elizabeth Hearndon Helen Kimbrough Diana Michel Caroline Seals" |

On April 1, 1967, the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta was installed at Western Kentucky University. In the chapter’s first year, Epsilon Kappa dove right into WKU’s Greek community. In their report to National Council, the women shared they were in the process of practicing for Spring Sing, a tradition still held at WKU to this day! Alpha Xi Delta flourished on campus and gave the Fraternity and the WKU community many dedicated officers and leaders. The Epsilon Kappa Chapter remained on WKU’s campus from 1967 to 1993, when it became dormant due to a decline in membership. Above is a photo of some Epsilon Kappa Chapter women in 1970. |

"On January 29, 1958, the Delta Alpha Delta Alumnae who wished to join were pledged to Alpha Delta Pi in the home of Bernice Gordon. The ninetieth chapter of Alpha Delta Pi was installed February 1 as the Delta Eta chapter at McNeese State University. Virginia Cooper Huffman was Chair of all the installation festivities. The weekend celebration began with an informal open house at the home of Ruth Perkins King on Friday evening where guests were received by Mrs. King, Miss Maxine Blake, Grand President, Mrs. Louis Iten, Grand Second Vice-President, Miss Eunice Lewis, Grand Secretary-Treasurer, Mrs. Rodman Genet, Beta Province President, and Joyce Knox, chapter President. Initiation services were held Saturday in the home of Bernice Gordon, and the installation banquet, where the charter was presented by Miss Blake, was held at the Chateau Charles on Saturday evening. Actives honored were Joyce Knox for being named to Who?s Who in American Colleges and Universities, Carolyn Gay Hudson and Nancy Marie David as having the highest scholastic averages, and Laura Louise Boone as the outstanding woman student in the College of Education. Laura also received the Lake Charles Alumnae Scholarship. Following church services on Sunday, a formal tea was held at the home of Edith Burton Plauche? where Gene Sorensen Jones, Alumnae President, Mable Lewis Kitt, McNeese Dean of Women, Grace Ramke, faculty sponsor, and Joyce Knox, chapter president received guests. Presiding at the tea table were Lucille Kennon Cusic, newly initiated honorary member and wife of the President of the college, Mr. Wayne Cusic; Virginia Cooper Huffman, general chairman of the installation activities; and Marian Palmer Colon. The picture of the newly initiated twenty-seven collegians in their white formal gowns at Mrs. Plauche?s residence graced the cover of the Spring 1958 Adelphean." |

Tri Delta Pansy Breakfast at USC----1957
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...eakfast4-1.jpgThis was a photo from the Los Angeles Times from the Pansy Breakfast which was held in the front garden at the Tri Delta chapter house at USC. Greek women were guests at the breakfast and announced their engagement by stepping through the Pansy Ring. Pictured here is Tri Delta, Judy Green, who wore a long white wedding gown in this photo from 1957. Judy was also a Homecoming Princess at SC.
The event was covered by the Times and was one of the city's social events in that era. This chapter originated the Pansy Breakfast. It is now held by chapters across the country as a spring event honoring graduating seniors. |
The USC Digital Library archives have a bunch of great retro sorority photographs.
http://digitallibrary.usc.edu/search...ller/index.htm Just enter 'sorority' in the search field. This is probably true of many digital archives of universities with strong tradition ties to their Greek community |

You have to wonder about yourself when you check out the Retro Pictures to make sure you're not IN any of them!

LOL, I know, Honey! And I looked at those 1989 Alpha Chi gals upthread and thought, "They look pretty normal to me!"
