Obviously, tradition and what-not are big deals at both schools, and there are PNMs at both who'd sooner commit ritual suicide than accept a bid from a group they thought was beneath them, but at Auburn recolonizing apparently doesn't carry a stigma—at least three or four of their sororities have left campus, then come back and done really well.

I'm sure the fact that Auburn doesn't have the huge sorority houses like Bama does help somewhat. You don't have quite as much pressure to come back HUGE because you have a house to fill. Of course, I could be totally wrong.

the auburn chapters are huge despite not having houses. a small chapter would not survive at auburn.

Yes but you don't have to put up the extra expense of building/renting/whatever the house. You can put all that into recruiting/PR. I didn't mean a 30 member chapter could survive there, obviously - more that you don't have to begin above & beyond eveyone else just so you can pay off the house.

Well, try telling that to the Auburn groups when they move in the new dorms and their chapter room rent goes from $8000 to $40,000.....

Here's an article about expansion from the Crimson White.

They got the dates wrong for the last sorority expansion at UA. A commenter got the facts right below the article. Go CW!

The CW never gets anything right.

Delta Gamma re-colonizing at The University of Alabama

I am a currently active Delta Gamma at the University of Southern Mississippi... and i'm only a freshman. I am thinking about transferring to the University of Alabama next year, and I was also wondering about these rumors that DG was recolonizing up there. I'm from Mobile, Alabama.... I was wondering if these rumors were true, and how I would fit in to helping this happen?:)

The University has requested information packets from any NPC groups interested in colonizing there. Based on that response, groups will be invited to make a presentation on campus. After that, the UA Panhellenic will vote on who to invite to colonize in time for '08-'09 school year. You can probably bet good money that if - and when - Delta Gamma returning to UA is a done deal, it will show up here within 30 minutes of the announcement!

DG may have indicated interest in Bama, but they have not selected anyone to make presentations just yet. There's nothing you can do to help "make it happen" since Bama's Panhellenic will be choosing the new group. Don't make your decision to transfer JUST on the fact that you heard that DG was colonizing, because there are several sororities interested in Bama and there are no gurarantees that they'll be selected.

Congratulation to all chosen to present. Although I am going to be rooting for AXiD and a chance to get our Alpha Tau chapter back.
